Yesterday we began on the third season of True Detective--with the first three episodes back to back on Belgian TV! We loved the first season and never caught the supposedly underwhelming second season. This one is easily up to the standard of the first so far. TD has to be a candidate for the best detective series ever televised:

My wife saw this film a short while ago and was completely blown away by it. A colleague of hers has also declared Beanpole to be the best film she has ever seen:

No Time To Die, the next 007 blockbuster, has been postponed until November due to the coronavirus (it was set to be released next month). Pretty major news. Beyond public safety and the closing of movie theaters, I think there might be an unfortunately timed storyline. Heck the title alone might even be problematic. It reminds me of Jack Reacher's premiere being indefinitely postponed in the wake of the Sandy Hook shooting. (There was a shooting in the opening scene of the movie and a child was a potential victim.)

I know there were at least a couple of situations like that after 9/11, too. Crazy how the real world can impact things that at first glance would seem unrelated (or how, looking back historically, you can lose the context that did impact things).

Not sure if anyone here is familiar with or a fan of the Kids in the Hall, but all original cast members plus Executive Producer Lorne Michaels are apparently going to be reuniting for a reboot on Amazon TV. I, for one, am looking forward to this. Cue me rewatching the original seasons and the movie Brain Candy.
Never ones to shy away from controversial topics, it'll be very interesting to see how they approach their brand of sketch comedy in 2020. I do hope the cast are ready for the PC backlash they are surely going to receive from new viewers who decide to check out the original series from the 90s. There’s a little something to offend everyone. But still so funny. I hope most people will take it with a grain of salt, as of course it's meant to be.

Okay, I might be the only one here who likes the Kids in the Hall, and that's cool, it's not for everyone. As I said, I've been rewatching the old episodes, and I just encountered this... the Beach Boys get a mention in this amusing and relevant sketch from 1990 about the death of rock 'n' roll. Just thought I'd share, for shits and giggles.

I never did get into Kids in the Hall. The weirdest part for me has been that people whose comedy taste feels otherwise identical love it and insist I ought to, too. Just never did.
Recently I watched the latest season of Baskets and am now going through the past couple of Better Things.

Baskets is so good! It took a few episodes for me to get into it, but I'm in season 2 now and I've really come to love the characters. Zach G is really funny as Chip, and I love Penelope, she's hilarious. But the standout performance is Louie Anderson's portrayal of Christine... it's amazing. So lovingly rendered. I have to imagine she's based on someone dear to him, perhaps even his own mother.

I'm positive that's Louie's own mom. His standup was in parts very similar in that. (It feels familiar...very Minnesotan.)
You know who else I love? Martha. I don't know why, but she is such a great character.

I can't believe I forgot Martha. Her unchanging facial expression and tone of voice make her the perfect straight-man for gags about being too loud and raucous. She's brilliant.

That cast... (I mean, her cast. That cast, not the cast of the show. Although that, too.)

That's something I don't think I've ever seen in a show before. I think my favourite Martha line so far has to be: "I'm gonna hold off on marriage until I find out what this polyamorous stuff is all about". And she's dead serious. So funny.

I can't help but notice that the 1995 movie Outbreak has been top 10 on Netflix (US) for the past few days.

Happened upon this interesting short documentary from 2010: Lou Reed (then 68) interviewing his cousin on her 100th birthday. She had left Poland for Montreal, Canada, in the interwar period, and soon thereafter left for New York City.

Lately, on weekends, we've just been surfing YouTube for mindless videos and we stumbled on a travel vlogger named Jacob the Carpetbagger. He posts videos at amusement parks, boardwalks, roadside attractions, haunted houses, etc etc. Apparently, he makes around $200K a year traveling the country, and making these videos. Yeah.....my HS guidance counselor can go fuck himself.
