Thanks, Sheriff John Stone! While I've never thought much of Mo Tucker as a drummer, exactly, I love the Velvet Underground and am interested to see this. Whether one considers it good or bad, she was certainly a unique player (playing standing up, hitting mostly toms, nary a high hat to be seen, and so on). And the dynamic of having a female drummer in an otherwise all male band in the mid and late '60s? That wasn't something you saw every day.

I've no idea whether it's true, but I've always understood she couldn't afford a complete kit. I don't know if that was the case with Bobby Gillespie when he drummed standing up for The Jesus and Mary Chain almost two decades later. He was certainly inspired by Mo -- I know that for a fact. Yes, female drummers like Honey Lantree in * The Honeycombs* were quite a rarity in the mid sixties!

The ultimate drummers' song. A fitting tribute to Keith Moon featuring 7 amazing drummers in what I feel is Roger's greatest solo tune.

I've no idea whether it's true, but I've always understood she couldn't afford a complete kit. Not true, according to the documentary, at least. It talks of Tucker's mom buying her a complete Gretsch kit in the early-mid '60s, as she only recently had become interested in drumming.

I read a biography of the VU years ago but all I can remember about Mo was that one of the others claimed that her favourite expression at the time was "You piece of shit".
