I know we don't want to turn this into another 60th Anniversary thread, but...
I swear I'm not saying this as an overly optimistic, unrealistic, never-say-die fan, but I have confidence, a lot actually, that BRI and or Azoff/Iconic could sign Joe Thomas today to produce a new studio album for 2022, and he would come up with a more than respectable recording. I think he can make them ALL sound good, and with a little searching and finding - back to the vaults again for old BW material and a few new ones from the FIVE OR SIX Beached Boys - a new, GOOD album could be produced. I really believe that.

Oh, I absolutely believe it's POSSIBLE, if everyone involved was behind the idea and really worked. But I don't think that's going to be the case. I don't think they will do another new studio album of originals.

Totally: a far, far better conclusion than I had ever expected, in fact. If that's it, it's probably more than most would have anticipated.
Buuuuuuuuut ... it's hard to say when enough is enough, and so if you offered me another chance at a final album? I'd say they should do it. (Then if it doesn't live up to its predecessor, oh well, I guess more fodder for complaining about them failing to know when enough is enough.)
They wouldn't be the first band who seemingly had a perfect career ending song, just to issue another album. Granted, these were posthumous releases, but Queen's The Show Must Go On was a perfect song for them to go out......but then Made in Heaven came out. Pink Floyd's High Hopes was a nice way to close out their studio career......but then The Endless River came out. And as fans of both bands, I'm still glad to have those two less than great albums in the catalog.

I don't think they will do another new studio album of originals. But that's what frustrates me (as he keeps the reunion subject going). I honestly believe Brian would look forward to - or at least wouldn't mind - recording a few tracks with The Beach Boys. I think Mike would jump at the opportunity if he could write one, two, or three songs with Brian. Of course Al would want to chime in. Same with Bruce and Dave. And, you have a wild card in Blondie if you want to play it. You know the record company would want it. You know the fans want it. They'll buy it just like they did with TWGMTR, well, at least for a week or two. So, why won't it happen? Because they don't have the management to pull it off. What are these people being paid for? For symphony orchestra and piano instrumental albums? OK, I'm going to cut the grass...

I'm not expecting much of anything to celebrate C60. I thought 2021 was pretty cool, with the Feel Flows box finally coming out, and a few of those songs being featured in the Mike and Bruce show. So I'd go for more of that. Let's get a CATP/Holland box, and see Mike's group integrate Sail on Sailor, The Trader, Funky Pretty, and We Got Love into the shows. And towards the end of 2022 or 23, Brian can release an all acapella album of his greatest hits - Surfer Girl, God Only Knows, Don't Worry Baby, California Girls, Help Me, Rhonda, Fun Fun Fun, I Get Around, Heroes and Villains, Surfin' USA, and Love and Mercy.

At the moment, I'm most interested in the Long Promised Road doc. I've been hearing enough good things to really get me excited for it. (Not to mention - it's real, it's complete, people have seen it, it'll be out soon...that's what gets me excited.) I'm also looking forward to At My Piano, but, as they've already released two tracks and more are most likely forthcoming, they aren't actually making me wait! Besides, the potential of Long Promised Road far exceeds the album, IMO.

Now that the Long Promised Road doc has gotten a distribution deal, I’m most immediately interested in seeing it. I expect it will be playing at our local art house theater, since documentaries are one of their focuses.

I expect it will be playing at our local art house theater, since documentaries are one of their focuses. That would be great! I don't have a lot of hope to see it in a theater, since the main one where this type of thing historically played in Minneapolis closed during the pandemic. There are a few others that I could imagine running it, so we'll see.
Generally I'm not that interested in movies to the point that I want to see them in theaters. But as was the case with Love & Mercy, this is one I'd make an exception for. But that said, I'll be glad even to be able to stream it.

I already drive around La and go to places relevant to the Beach Boys and just sit there and think so not sure I'm going to learn a lot by seeing some people drive around with Brian and talk about his favorite diners. If there's more to it than that I'll be open-minded. I've already made my peace with the closing of Foster's Freeze.
Only thing that means anything relevant and would be an actual event in history, would be the five Beach Boys appearing together on stage and doing a live show either series of sold-out concerts at the Hollywood Bowl or some TV special. Having them sitting in an audience while various has-beens and never will bees struggle through the wrong chord changes on famous Beach Boy songs is not going to make it for me.
I love a good homage where people like David Crosby and Carly Simon and Brian's daughters and other people sing Beach Boys songs and that kind of stuff is wonderful but it's not a substitute for seeing the original Beach Boys one more time onstage 60 years later. That is the event we want to see, that is the one that makes history and that is the one that will live forever.

I'm having trouble with the word "excited". Maybe it's an age thing.

After some serious reflection, I think a decent band doc would interest me the most. My default Brian doc is the BBC's Art that Shook the World episode about Pet Sounds. New albums don't interest me, although I'm glad they interest others.

I'm having trouble with the word "excited". Maybe it's an age thing. Good point, jk. I kinda feel the same way (see what I did there? I'm in my 50s using a word like "kinda"! ) Not to throw a damper on this thread, but after the long awaited release of the treasures on the Feel Flows set, I am actually satisfied. Meaning that I'm not really looking toward the next big thing. I've been busy digesting the tracks on the 2 CD release, and some of the tracks on YouTube, and my excitement, interest, or whatever is still there. I'm gonna find a way to purchase that 5 CD box! But beyond that, I don't have much interest in what's left. '71 is pretty much the end of the classic Beach Boys era for me, so any further deluxe album release doesn't appeal to me. I went to a performance of the 50th Anniversary, and enjoyed that, but I don't feel like a 60th Anniversary tour or studio album is going to reveal anything new. I voted for "New Band Doc", which may be interesting, but again, I don't think will be revelatory. I still enjoy AB and EH.

Very interesting thoughts, sockit.
My main disagreement is that I extend that, well, if not "classic era," at least "interesting and creative eras," through Holland, which means the next copyright release is very interesting to me.
But basically the rest of what you say at the very least makes a lot of sense to me.
