There are (at least) a couple of ways to consider this whole topic, then. One is that if you spend enough time considering anything, you're bound to find fault, or at least things you'd change. Another is that the mere fact of this ought not be taken too seriously, in that its probably as much a product of your focus as of anything inherent in the artist. And another is that the bar of perfection is not only unattainably high, but not objective from person to person.
I couldn't agree more. Another part of it is that, when discussing the music, I think it can be easier (and just more efficient) to talk about what we don't like as opposed to what we like. When I'm nitpicking about a mix, or the way a syllable is sung, or a particular arrangement choice or something, I'm just exploring the factors holding it back in my estimation (and, ever so slightly, in most cases). Nearly all of my posts of that nature should probably end with: I like/love everything else about it! Edit: Admittedly, those little things can add up, and without discussing the implied positives, a reader could have a reaction like Kapitan was talking about the other day, which was essentially, "isn't it funny/odd how someone could criticize a song so thoroughly and then rate it an '8'?

Speaking of our perspective, of our focus, well, I've taken a step back over these past few days and I'm in awe of what I see. Stay tuned to the 'Pick an Album....Then Pick Your Own Singles From It' thread.
