I see the franchise responded in carefully measured words: “steaming pile of s—-.”

Whether you believe the story or not - and I believe parts of it are true - they better advance past Brooklyn and probably Boston or there could be serious changes. Things just don't feel right, don't appear right with this team.

I'm excited for the game tonight. It'll be interesting to see how both the Sixers and Nets respond. I hear Dudley is going to play. You wouldn't think that would really matter, but when the Nets went small in game 1 they embarrassed the Sixers. They didn't run plays, they didn't set screens, they just spread out on the perimeter and blew by guys one on one. It was really something to watch. I'll be shocked if the Nets don't retaliate against Embiid (and possibly Simmons).

It'll be interesting to see if Brooklyn sacrifices a flagrant or a technical foul to send Embiid and Simmons a message. And you're exactly right. The Nets' players blew right by the Sixers' defenders which was bad enough, but what compounded it for no defensive help. That has been a problem all year. Forget stats like steals and blocks; the 76ers just have not played good team defense.

Hard to play good team defense when you shuffle fully half your roster during the season!
Also...Butler is a chemistry killer. He did it twice before; no reason for the third time to shock anyone. Great as he is, I think letting him walk should be the plan.
BKN has been fun this year. I’m sure they’ll sign at least one max guy this summer too. Could be a lot of fun. (Imagine AD pairing with those guys!)

Big game in a big win for Ben Simmons. That shooting percentage...
Durant had quite a comeback game, too.
And Derrick White from San Antonio, what the heck! I loved seeing that.

Big game for the 76ers - regained the home court advantage, won without Embiid, were able to rest him for a few more days, and helped to deflect all of the criticism/controversy surrounding the team. They are far from "fixed", but it was a good win.

Embiid's health is REALLY worrisome in the long term. You can't help but feel like it's going to be a Sam Bowie/Ralph Sampson situation. He's missing playoff games without an actual, acute injury, just the tendinitis that's presumably going to haunt him forever. I hate to say this, but he is probably going to be a 60-game player forever, resting those knees and feet and back to prevent the chronic problems from hindering him too much.

Yes, you mentioned Embiid being a 60-game player...There is already talk about NEXT YEAR putting him on his own personal "load management" schedule, meaning playing so many games, sitting out the next one/two, playing the next so many games, then sitting, and so on. And he's only 25.

Not only is he only 25, but he has already missed what, two full seasons?
A quick glance shows that of 410 possible regular season games, he has played 158 so far...

And Derrick White from San Antonio, what the heck! I loved seeing that.
Derrick White was phenomenal! He's been good all year for the Spurs, but last night he was GREAT. He was driving at will. I'd think he didn't have enough space to complete the drive, but he'd somehow find a way, as if Jokic wasn't right there! He played the best game of his career. The Spurs are winning this series in the paint and on the foul line. They are playing some old school basketball. Not relying on perimeter shooting is allowing them to play more consistently on the offensive end and limiting the Nuggets fast break. They are also out rebounding the Nuggets (Poeltl has been impressive - nice pick up in the Kawhi trade). The team stats through 3 games are remarkably close, but the Spurs are putting together better games. I'm feeling pretty confident as a Spurs fan right now. Patty Mills had a surprisingly poor game last night. I wonder if his finger injury might be worse than he's letting on (or maybe he just had an off night). In hindsight, they really should have sat him in game 1. When I heard he was out just before the tip last night, my first thought was 'this might get Harris going'. Tendinitis is no joke. I played sports 24/7 growing up. Right around the time I turned 17 I developed tendonitis in both of my knees. By the time I was 18 I was never the same again. Before long, the only exercise I could handle was cycling. I've only just started jogging again after nearly 10 years. Obviously, a lot of NBA players deal with tendonitis and are able to have long careers, but for some...

I'm really excited to watch Derrick White succeed, because I really loved him coming out of college. My soft spot is big playmakers, whether big point guards or point forward types, so to see him projected as a 6-6ish point guard was really exciting for me. But I was worried he might not be athletic enough to play point defensively. San Antonio has solved that problem by using him as a wing.
I can't wait to see Dejounte Murray, Lonnie Walker, and Derrick White as the back three in a couple of years...

One or two thoughts on the Sixers...
I think the Sixers have played quite well with Boban on the court. Conversely, Monroe looks like a bum. Anyway, do you guys think Boban should be getting more minutes? Is the reason he doesn't play more minutes, because he can't handle more minutes? He's played on multiple teams at this point, typically averaging about 10mpg.

The problems with Boban are the problems a lot of teams have these days with traditional post players:
1. They can't guard out on the court. With so many teams using high pick and rolls and spacing even their centers out beyond the 3-pt line on offense, if centers can't switch onto smaller players, they become hard to keep on the court for that reason.
2. They can't keep up with the pace of the modern game, so even just getting back and getting set can be an issue.
I think in the 90s, when the game slowed so dramatically, Boban could have been a 25-30 mpg player and probably put up some really nice numbers. (He's a 23 and 15 kind of guy on a per-36 minute basis.) As I have written before, I think he's tremendously skilled in the classic post sense. But the game just isn't made for traditional bigs anymore, and he just isn't the athlete you need in a more heavily featured player.
