Here’s a story on the rise of EDM over the past decade. pitchfork.com/features/article/2010s-reverberations-of-edm-skrillex-zedd/It’s actually somewhat interesting, largely because I’m so much the grumpy old confused man. (Ok boomer) EDM is the one genre I just almost never get. Not to say dance: while every bit as uncomfortable dancing as you’d expect from a white forty-something midwestern straight guy, there’s plenty of dance MUSIC I love. But it’s disco, RnB, soul, funk, and so on. Truer EDM, I just can’t understand what it is that’s likable in it. The occasional Robyn or Daft Punk song—and I mean occasional—is the closest I get. Yet it seems to be yet another genre (along with rap/hip-hop, pop, modern country, and modern RnB) to have overtaken rock music in the popularity hierarchy.

EDM, or another reason why the 2010s has been the worst decade for popular music so far. I'm pushing 40, so I know I'm outside the desired demo. But, what the ever loving fuck? People pay good money to watch a DJ play electronic noise? I can accept the fact that rock and roll is no longer the dominant genre. The golden age wasn't build to last forever. But, the fact that this utter slop has overtaken it, and by a lot, is mind blowing to me. Granted, modern pop, pop, and country are trash, but at least there are some melodies there. I don't know. Maybe I haven't taken hard enough drugs to allow my mind to enjoy this stuff.

Ozzy Osbourne announced his first new album in a decade, Ordinary Man, due out in early 2020. He released the album's lead single, "Under the Graveyard" with the announcement.
The band included GnR's Duff McKagan on bass, the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Chad Smith on drums, and producer Andrew Watt on guitar.

I'm worried about Willie Nelson's health. It appears that age (86) and smoking has finally caught up with him. This was his performance last night on the CMAs with Kacey Musgraves:

That is pretty rough to watch. It's beyond most of the Brian-bashing actually. He's holding that guitar and not doing much with it. He's not singing much, and I'm guessing the intention was more of a duet based on how they're looking at one another. And when he sings, well, while Willie was never known as a pure singer, it's reminiscent of the latter Leonard Cohen.
Still, he's 86. He has been doing what he has wanted to do for a long, long time. God bless, Willie.

The Jacksons' reputation - well, for most of them - continues to take a hit:

Knowing Eric Clapton, I'm sure this will be tastefully done. I hope Eric recruits Steve Winwood for the Blind Faith material..

I didn't see it mentioned, but I wonder how the bundling the Beach Boys did in 2012 would've been counted.

Flavor of the month Billie Eilish found her name all over the social media for saying she'd never heard of Van Halen blabbermouth.net/news/wolfgang-van-halen-doesnt-care-if-billie-eilish-never-heard-of-van-halen/I think it's reasonable to expect a 17 year old, whose music is about as far removed from Van Halen as you can get, to never have heard of a band who have been dormant for most of her years on Earth. But, it also could be a brilliant ploy to get her name out there in the classic rock circle. I'm sure, out of curiosity, some of them pulled up her music online (poor bastards). Streams + trending on social media = good music business nowadays.

I am and I am not surprised she didn’t know of Van Halen. I’m not surprised because, as you said, she’s 17 and they haven’t been hitmakers since the early ‘90s, a solid decade before she was born. But I am for other reasons: They are a legendary band from her hometown and she’s a musician. It’s almost (but not quite…maybe 90%) like saying you’re from LA and haven’t heard of the Beach Boys. They defined southern California for at least a decade. And yes, they’re before her time, but I was always aware of Eddie Cochran and Bob Dylan, two home-state musicians whose primes were a decade or more before my birth. And not just them, but dozens of others, even if I didn’t know their music. Music is easier to access than ever before. I never came across Velvet Underground until I sought them out on my own in college; but now you can find anything for free instantly. Lastly, from what I can tell it’s popular to wear imitation “vintage” band t-shirts these days. A stroll through Target will show you Metallica, Billy Joel, Journey, Tom Petty, Jimi Hendrix, and—yep!—Van Halen. You’d think she’d at least have seen those! So yeah, I guess I am a little surprised she wasn’t at least aware of Van Halen, even if she wasn’t familiar with their music.

This is why I tend to believe she said this to get her name trending.
But, I think it also speaks to a trend of older music being dismissed by a younger crowd. Especially since big guitar oriented rock is so looked down upon these days.
But, even if that's the case, I'd have a hard time believing she's almost an adult, and have never heard "Jump." So, it's possible she knows some of their music, but didn't know it was them.
Here's my "get off my lawn comment" regarding Ms. Eilish. Her music is aggressively bad. The bottom of the bottomless pit. I'd listen to Taylor Swift's entire new album on loop before spending three minutes on Eilish's "Bad Guy." And if Billie Eilish's debut album is still being discussed and celebrated 41 years later, then music will be poorer for it.

Seems like Dave is tired of waiting for Eddie to come around, and with Eddie's latest cancer diagnosis, it could be a little while before Van Halen do any touring again, if ever.
