Artist: George Harrison, Beatle and solo. By far the artist I've listened to the most in 2021. Album: - Song: There are so many. Today I'm going to say The Beatles - Getting Better. Perfect song. Indeed, a song to set the mind afloat. It, "Lovely Rita" and "Good Morning Good Morning" are for me the standout tracks on SPLHCB.

Artist: The Guess Who. Little trivia note, their early singles bear the artist credit: Guess Who? I have a 45 of Shakin' All Over, labeled as such.
Album: Goodbye--Cream. Their farewell as a group with lots of bells and whistles.
Song: Geesus, there are so many.....The two greatest songs of all time (and yes I know they were already mentioned) Good Vibrations and God Only Knows by the BBs. A few songs were mentioned by the Beatles, but how about Got to Get You Into My Life, Get Back, and Good Day Sunshine?

(and yes I know they were already mentioned) I've seen this idea pop up a few times, that maybe people ought not repeat what has been mentioned. Do as you like, of course, but as far as I'm concerned repetition is no sin in this thread. If you want to say X, then goddamnit, say X!
(Though I guess "X" would be premature, as we're only on G.)

Artist - Barry Gibb - Is it possible that he is very, very underrated in a lot of ways?
Album - Go Girl Crazy - by The Dictators. Rock, hard rock, punk, Beach Boys, humorous lyrics - just great, late 1970's, New York rock & roll. Check it out.
Song - Grim Reaper Of Love - a cool one by The Turtles.

Never heard (or heard of, maybe...not sure) the Dictators, but that's fun. Also a quick googling shows for a time in the '70s their bassist was Mark "the Animal" Mendoza, a name I recall from my teenage liner-notes and rock-mag obsessing days: he joined Twisted Sister for their peak era.

Ohhhh man, good pick! One of the darker selections from the folks that brought us "Happy Together" and "Elenore".

Here we go with our next set of picks.
Artist/Band: Jeff Hanson. Not actually my #1 choice, but a dearly departed local favorite who did this beautiful tune among a few really good albums before his untimely passing. Buddy Holly, Haim, the Hold Steady, and Herman Dune are all knocking on the door.
Album: Heroes, David Bowie (1977), with honorable mention to Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer, of Montreal (2007)
Song: " Hangman's Song," Puerto Muerto (2005) or " Hold On," Tom Waits (1999). Though in honor of KDS (who I think is on vacation hence his silence these past few days) I feel like I should have said:

Artist: Noddy Holder - In high school, my friend/music buddy used to buy these Slade albums and ask me to listen to them. I loved the music but Noddy's vocals were a little too much to handle. They prevented me from fully enjoying the music. Years later I revisited Slade, and I was wrong. Noddy Holder was a GREAT rock & roll singer and quite a character. In 1992, at age 46, Noddy retired from music and never looked back, despite getting continuous offers to reunite with Slade.
Album: Hurricane Smith by Hurricane Smith - Who woulda thunk it. Norman Smith was the engineer and producer for groups like The Beatles, Pink Floyd, and The Pretty Things. In 1971, at age 48, he started a recording career of his own under the name Hurricane Smith. His first single, "Don't Let It Die", was a No. 2 hit in the U.K. but only a minor hit in the U.S. It was, however, played constantly on my local AM radio station. Then, he followed that up with a huge hit everywhere, "Oh, Babe, What Would You You Say" - and a full album, simply titled Hurricane Smith. A quirky but lovely little album by a unique singer.
Song: Hush - Not only my favorite Deep Purple song, but one of my favorite songs period. AM radio gold.
Some Beatles' conspiracy theorists claimed that John Lennon wrote "Don't Let It Die". While the song was demoed and hoped that Lennon would record it, and it does sound like something Lennon would've written and sung, actually the song was written by Norman Smith's wife, Eileen.

Album: Hot Rats ~ Frank Zappa As big a Beefheart fan as I am, ironically "Willie the Pimp" is by far my least favorite song on this album! But the majestic (if cartoonish) "Peaches en Regalia," that's fabulous. It was, I believe, the sole Zappa tune represented in the famous "Real Book" of jazz standards.
Anyway overall Ian Underwood in particular stands out throughout the album.

At this point, I'm not thinking strictly favorites anymore. It's too hard to just pick one for each category! I just say what I feel like saying at the moment. Album: Led Zeppelin - Houses of the Holy. Might not be their most consistent effort, but there are many all timers on this album. D'yer Mak'er takes it down a notch. Love your new approach and think it makes for a more fun thread anyway. Otherwise it's so easy to imagine ending up with half a dozen choices for obvious things.
And that album, I actually forgot it somehow ... and it would be a candidate for me for actual BEST "H" album! I know some people rate it a little lower down their list of canonical Zep albums, but I think it's right up there, probably just a hair below IV and equal to or better than everything else.

Album: Led Zeppelin - Houses of the Holy. Might not be their most consistent effort, but there are many all timers on this album. D'yer Mak'er takes it down a notch. Song: Paul McCartney - Heart Of The Country. I almost chose Houses of the Holy. Was feeling more Neil Young in the morning, though. Good pick!

Well, even though I said my picks aren't necessarily favorites, HotH turned out to be one of the cases where it is a favorite. I won't say it receives a lot of hate, because I know it doesn't, but sometimes I feel fans are needlessly too harsh on this album. I agree with most of them when it comes to D'yer Mak'er, the song is kind of a dud. But I don't feel like that makes it their worst album by any means. The Song Remains The Same, Over The Hills and many others are Zeppelin at their very best. Well I personally LOVE D'yer Mak'er, but I do know it isn't a broad favorite. I do agree that may others are the band at their best.
