I'm an early bird, too! I just happened to be slow on this thread today. Anyway, I only said it so I could get my daily dumb little letter-of-the-day line in there, "for heaven's sake..." You're certainly welcome to kick things off, too!
I was thinking more along the lines of "About effin' time!" but wisely decided against it.

Album: Forever Changes ~ Love. I bought this album when it was first released but had trouble with it for decades until a good friend initiated me into its wonders It's still one of my most disappointing albums ever. It was one I heard of back in the early '00s as an underappreciated classic, along the same lines (and along the same time I was hearing of it) as the Zombies O&O. But where the latter absolutely floored me, I've never yet gotten the former. I just don't like Love, I guess. Understandable. Arthur Lee is not everyone's cup of tea.

Artist/Band: The Four Tops There are a bunch of acts I like, but nobody REALLY stands out as a full-on favorite of mine.
I had no idea!

I had no idea! That I liked the Four Tops? Sure! I like a lot of Motown. Mostly those artists don't rise to "favorite bands/artists" status as much as their work pops up among favorite songs. But yeah, I definitely enjoy Motown in general, and the Four Tops in particular.
It's funny, I'd actually equate them in a way to another of the F-bands I was considering, the Flying Burrito Bros. Love the sound in general, really enjoy some of the music, but a favorite band? Nah.

I know I already put in my picks for today, but I feel like I ought to at least make mention of someone whom I've now overlooked for two letters: Fiona Apple.
While I couldn't have had a lower opinion of her in her first few years in the public eye, I've come to hear a lot of greatness in her music--especially her 2012 album The Idler Wheel... (She could shorten the album titles, actually.)
From that great album, "Werewolf" is a favorite of mine. It's intense.

Artist: The Fixx. Great 80s atmospheric pop band
Album: For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge. My favorite out the Van Hagar years (and there's your subtle profanity, Kapitan!)
Song: Fire--The Crazy World of Arthur Brown. Yes I do have a twisted side!

Song: Fire--The Crazy World of Arthur Brown. Yes I do have a twisted side! I can't believe you picked that song. I swear I was gonna use that one. That's scary, as is the song. Arthur Brown is still alive, he's 79 now, and still performing, still singing "Fire".
Artist: Thank you Ace Frehley for all of your guitar playing on the early KISS albums. I enjoyed the hell out of them!
Album: The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan. This was my first Bob Dylan album and it contains some of, not just Dylan's greatest songs, but some of the greatest songs of the folk era.
Song: If every word I said could make you laugh I'd talk...Forever.
Arthur Brown wore KISS makeup way before KISS wore it:

Artist: I'll say Father John Misty just to vary a little. He's frequently pegged as a pretentious songwriter, but I mostly disagree. He just got a wit and is always willing to write about subjects people are uncomfortable with. Maybe that's why some critics and music fans dismiss him so much... I'm lukewarm in general on him, but I have to say, when I first became aware of him, I was blown away:
I knew the name before that, but hadn't bothered to listen. I knew he was out of Fleet Foxes, whom I was similarly dismissive of. I figured, a freak-folkie splinter group? Nah. But this really struck me. It's heaped in cynicism and sarcasm to a degree I relate to less and less as I age, but if I had heard this when I was 20-30, I would've been thrilled. Would've been a snarky asshole like mine's wet dream. (OK, that's gratuitous.) Honestly now it really turns me off. A little too self-righteously clever preacher to his own choir. But that's 44-year-old me, not the 35-year-old who really liked it, much less the 23-year-old who would've worshipped it.

It seems to me--just my impression--that snark and cynicism are kind of a young man's game. It's more appealing at that age, and more effective with that age group, in my opinion. The same schtick from an older person just feels a little sad or pathetic. Maybe that kind of serious criticism (bathed in humor) just equates well with people as they really develop themselves, including as they break off from [whatever]. Kind of the next step after teenage rebellion: twentysomething snark.

They were great!

Band: Genesis. From the time I first saw the pictures of Peter Gabriel in his outlandish costumes in Creem Magazine, I knew I had to listen to what he was singing. I was not disappointed. Also - Peter Gabriel Genesis > Phill Collins Genesis
Album: Goodbye Yellow Brick Road - Elton John. One the greatest albums of all time. One I pretty much wore out, Still love it. I do have to give an honorable mention to Grace - Jeff Buckley. He was taken from us too soon. Such a talent and voice. What a beautiful album.
Song: God Only Knows. The best song ever written.
