Album - Butts Band - the self-titled first album by the group formed by Robby Krieger and John Densmore after the breakup of The Doors, and possibly one of the worst names for any band in the rock era. I STILL don't know how they came up with that name.
Damn, that is a bad name! Two letters in and not an explicit Doors pick yet? "Been Down So Long" was in contention for me. Song - Big Bang Baby by Stone Temple Pilots, and I am obsessed by this song, big time, I'm talking "Be My Baby"-like. I can't stop listening to this song; that bridge of "Nothing is free, nothing is free, take it away boys..." is spectacular. Surprisingly, I don't really recognize the song. I had Core and No. 4 growing up. Perusing their song titles, it's really just the big songs from their debut that I recall. They were really popular around here because two of the members grew up nearby (Jersey Shore).

Artist: The Beatles (Since The Beach Boys was already mentioned! ) Album: Berlin (Lou Reed). The album is a downer and intense and I love it. Song: Brick (Ben Folds). One of the saddest songs I have ever heard and I think it is brilliant in capturing the emotions of a couple dealing with an abortion. Great choices across the board. And funny you went with two downers, which don't seem to jump to people's minds very often when they're thinking of favorites. But I think both Berlin and "Brick" are great. (Though my favorite Ben Folds Five is the Reinhold Messner album.)

Good one! But ya know, I gotta come clean. I was joking and being a bit novel. While I do enjoy the above offerings by Paul Rogers and Company, they're not my absolute favorites. So in the interest of honesty and playing fair, here is my entry of absolute Desert Island favorites (in the key of B): Artist: Joe Bonamassa. Honestly, he's tied in my book with the obvious.... Beach Boys Album: Bali--Wondermints. I know I share the love of this album with at least one other poster Song: Baby You're a Rich Man. One of my all time favorite Beatles songs

C what you come up with today.
Band: Cotton Mather, the Austin-based rock band whose 1997 album Kontiki is one of my absolute favorites, a Top 10 album for me.
Song: Christmas Card From a Hooker in Minneapolis (Tom Waits) gets the home-field advantage from me. But as always, there are so many to choose from!
Album: Coquelicot Asleep in the Poppies (Of Montreal) over CATP, Nico's Chelsea Girl, and the Flaming Lips' Clouds Taste Metallic.

(Though my favorite Ben Folds Five is the Reinhold Messner album.) The beauty of music is that it can enhance a narrative or feeling using melody, vocal inflections and orchestration. I feel that it is at it's finest when the concept is more melancholy. I like a little gut wrench now and then. Would Pet Sounds be an almost consensus favorite amongst Beach Boys fans if it were an album of songs about requited love and happy events? I will have to check out the Reinhold Messner album. I have never heard it. Thanks!

Here's a link to it. The way the opening song, "Narcolepsy," begins--it's one of my favorite album openings ever. I wasn't really a big Ben Folds fan (and really never became one), but this album won me over immediately back in '98 or whenever it was.

Artist: Carl Wilson. I have a book, a documentary and have photos of Carl on my wall at work. One of my bucket list items is to visit his grave. He had the voice and demeanor of an angel. I am obsessed. Song: Closer - Nine Inch Nails. The first time I saw the video I was blown away. The Downward Spiral came out when I was getting my first divorce. I played it loud and alot. Album: Chronic Town - REM. Technically it is an EP, but it reminds me of my college days, and my best friend Andrea said I had to listen to it and we went to see REM at the Lawrence Opera House. I made sure I saw them every time they came to Kansas City. A highly enjoyable precursor of amazing things to come

Artist: Curtis Amy - he played the sax solo on The Doors' "Touch Me". Curtis also played on Carole King's Tapestry album, and he was married to Merry Clayton who sang on The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter".
Album: Crosby, Stills & Nash - Contains "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes", "Marrakesh Express", "Guinnevere", "Wooden Ships", "Long Time Gone", and "Helplessly Hoping". Pretty good debut.
Song: Constant Companion - This Dennis Wilson song (co-written by Carli Munoz) deserved better fate. It should've appeared...somewhere before 2017.

It did. Yes, Sheriff John Stone I know you know it was on the 2008 POB deluxe reissue w/ the Bambu music, so I think you just had a brain fart or typo.
I like that song, too--much more than most of Dennis's own songs. It has a little life to it.
