Part of my comment was meant not just with being forced to do X at a certain time, but doing it at all. It gets less relevant to KDS's specific complaint of the day in that sense, but is just meant to say that we don't actually have to live our lives according to convention. Not that we ought to try to be oddballs or frustrating contrarians, either. But not only do you not have to do or buy X early, you don't have to do or buy it at all if you don't want to. Life is relatively short and best spent not worrying about these things.

But, to me, that's part of embracing the present rather that trying to hit the forward button on life. I posted in another thread, I've even learned to embrace the winter months for what they are. We only get so many seasons. And, that's why I do find it irritating that the retail world's calendar is so askew.

Yes, you've summarized it well there. I'm definitely not trying to say there's nothing to the various things that makes sense behind their currently mass-marketed forms.
For example, lighter beers in the summer didn't become popular because of some Budweiser-driven campaigns, but because in summer people historically just preferred cool, lighter drinks. I don't mean "hey, you should avoid summer ales in summer just to stick it to 'em."
What I mean is more like what you've just said: you should do what feels right to you and your family and friends (within reason and the law, of course!) when you want to do it. If it's the most mainstream, normie thing to do ... so what? Do it. If it's the most obscure, unusual thing ... so what? Do it.
Most of us about about 75-85 spins around the sun. If you spend every spring anticipating summer, every summer planning for autumn, every autumn getting ready for winter, and so on, you'll miss most of your actual life while worrying about some future potential one that never comes (because by then you've moved on). You're literally never experiencing your actual, real life.

Right, Budweiser actually made a big adjustment to go with the trend of lighter summer beers when they rolled out Bud Light Lime in 2008. I remember reading that Bud Light Lime was actually the highest selling beer that particular summer. To be honest, I'm not sure if they make it any longer, but if not, it's likely because there are so many more options for summer beers, not to mention the seltzers that have exploded in the last two or three years, than there were in 2008. Anheuser Busch also makes summer time beers for their Natural Light and Busch beers. One thing I tend to gravitate to in summer is something that never really got as big as I thought. That's cotton candy flavored stuff. I first latched onto it probably in the early 00s when I first had cotton candy flavored ice cream. By the late 00s / early 10s, you could get cotton candy vodka, cotton candy Oreos, & cotton candy cupcakes among other things. The flavor never really became the pumpkin spice of summer like I predicted, but there's still some treats to be found. Oddly enough, I've probably not had actual cotton candy in nearly 30 years. But, something about that flavor just brings back that summertime feel.

I'm bumping this thread because I had a get off my lawn summertime moment over the weekend.
On Saturday - July 2 - we went to Target. We had to pick up some things, and it's a good way to get the little one out of the house for a little bit, especially since it was very hot and muggy. I figured I'd pick up some charcoal while I'm there. I had enough to do my grilling for the weekend, but I was down to one bag, and the box stores are often the place to go.
Well, the summer seasonal aisle was nearly empty when it comes to summertime stuff, having made room for Back to School stuff. The only charcoal they had was a bag or two of some random brand charcoal. So, if you're looking for charcoal on July 2 (!), you're out of luck, but there's plenty of Elmer's Glue.
And, for that matter, I can't put a lot of faith in a store than considers charcoal a seasonal item. I totally understand having some charcoal in the seasonal section in the summer months, but that's a year round item, which should be somewhere in the home or outdoor section. Every other store seems to get that.
