I hope those talking heads include more people. Not just the principals, but a broad swath of relevant people--and I also don't just mean stars, contemporaries. I mean directly relevant people.
Previously they've used Chuck Britz and Hal Blaine, for example. Those two are out for reasons of mortality. But let's at the very least get Blondie and Ricky in there! And not just surviving Wrecking Crew musicians, but road musicians. Billy Hinsche, Ed Carter, Jeff Foskett, etc.

I'm placing this announcement by Mike here because it will cut into 2022 a bit when the Beach Boys will not be...reuniting.

Can you summarize? Seems you need an account to Rolling Stone to read it. (But I got the idea that there's a cruise on the horizon ... with good ol' Sugar Ray, of course! DO IT!)

Jeez, that's an awfully snarky article.

The author of that article obviously had an agenda, especially the last paragraph, which was taken way out of context, imo. It certainly seems like the closer we get to next year, the chances of a full reunion tour grow dimmer based on what we have and haven't heard. Mike's 2022 shows only go to April, which is when C50 started. However, Brian went ahead and scheduled a full European tour in June and July. We're already hearing though how Mike is the one who doesn't want a reunion.

We're already hearing though how Mike is the one who doesn't want a reunion. Of Mike, Brian, and Al, it appears to me that Al is the only one (currently) interested in a reunion. Edit: Of course, there’s much we aren’t privy to.

I think it's worth noting that almost every instance of a published statement about a "reunion tour" actually is more about a reunion show or a few reunion shows--and often in the context of a tribute to the band every bit as much as the band itself.
If that is indeed the case, and quite possibly has been all along, then nobody is sabotaging reunion plans. The reunion plans may well not require more than a week or two, and maybe a little more time for rehearsals and media obligations. Nobody ever promised us (or even hinted at, I don't think) a massive tour.

Yup, as B.E. alluded to, Al is the only one who's actually talked about reunion shows. If there are going to be *any* full shows with the guys, I'm going to be there, no matter the cost. That would most assuredly be it for a reunited Beach Boys.

Unless they are planning something for the end (November or December) of 2022, then they are less than a year away from the actual...reunion...whatever it turns out to be. I'm just getting the feeling, again, that it'll be another rush job, just like everything else they've ever done. And, there will be parts of it that could've/should've been better but they didn't take the time and care. They've learned nothing from their past. Why hasn't there been an official announcement from Azoff/Iconic? Of course BRI and Jerry Schilling have nothing but that's to be expected - it's the Beach Boys. But Irving Azoff has a track record. I expected more. A cruise with no reunited Beach Boys. A Brian solo European tour in June /July 2022. Yes, it might only take a few weeks of rehearsals for the shows, but schedules have to be cleared. Why the big secret, if there is something goin' on?

Well, if Brian Wilson can do Pet Sounds - 50 shows in 2017, then maybe Beach Boys - 60 can start in late 2022 and go into 2023.

But I'm just saying...
For example, let's assume that we are not looking at a tour, but rather at a tribute show, or a few tribute shows. (I'm thinking akin to the All-Star Tribute to Brian Wilson thing. Not my preference, but based on previous comments from people, probably most likely.)
The cruise is three days in late March. Wilson's tour is June 4 through July 8. That leaves A LOT of time for a show, or a few shows. Including summer, which usually seems best. There is no reason we couldn't see late July or August heavy with reunion stuff. Or April-May. If that's the case, would publicity almost a year early really be necessary? I think later this fall we'll see publicity teasing certain aspects of the anniversary, with specifics being announced when they're not half a year or more off.
They just don't need two or three months. They may not even need three weeks. Most of what is going to be done doesn't really involve them, truth be told: documentary, probably new product, and quite frankly even planning and rehearsing the shows.

I just think that logistically speaking/thinking, there's a lot to take care of, and I would think that has to be done well in advance. If a TV special is being filmed, they have to book a studio, producer, crew, etc. With concerts you have venues to book. With the guest artists (plural), you have multiple schedules to coordinate. Even the backing band, who ever that turns out to be, while I'm sure they would probably "drop everything", you have to let them know. If there is any type of album to be released that involves some planning, and I say this in all seriousness, we know how they need sufficient time and can botch parts of them. Does anybody put it past Mike and Brian, or specifically their management, to book gigs right through 2022 and then at the last minute say, "Well, nobody told me we were to plan for (whatever)..."
I don't know...Wouldn't you think BRI and Iconic would want to get something out there in announcing a/the reunion? Wouldn't they want to capitalize on the advanced advertising and press and rumblings and message board chat to gather interest and momentum - for free? Or maybe they don't think they need it.

If there is something to be announced, they probably didn't want to step on the toes of Feel Flows. We're still only just over a month out from it's release. Then you've got Long Promised Road now supposedly due out sometime next month. It's also worth noting that the 50th anniversary stuff wasn't announced until December 2011.

What I was thinking was that if they announced a reunion tour of any type (any amount of shows) of "The Beach Boys" now, then what is Mike (and to some extent Brian) going to say as he travels the country/world as The Beach Boys. A fan saying: But, Mike, I thought this band playing tonight was THE Beach Boys. And a fan maybe thinking: Should I save my money for the REAL Beach Boys or spend $75 now to see Mike and Bruce?
