I was wondering how you found out about Bennett/Harrison. I'm glad I kept scrolling! Does Taylor Mills sing on the album? Just background vocals on one song, from the credits. (I haven't listened to much of it yet.)

I realize this is teetering on the brink of this topic but it shouldn't go unmentioned. It's Jack Rieley and Machiel Botman's 1975 album Western Justice. SMILE-Holland has contributed an entire thread to the album at EH, including priceless translations of Dutch magazine articles ( here). Here is the entire album for your listening pleasure: Western Justice. At least give the magnificent opening track a listen... Being a big fan of the Rieley era, I recall being excited to listen to this years ago. But I have to admit it didn't leave a big impression at the time. Maybe I'll give it another spin sometime.

Thanks for posting, jk . I'm not familiar with this album (and see why that's the case in noting its status as unreleased...) and am glad to have a chance to hear it. Even though I tend not to be a huge fan of Blondie's songs, every now and again they make believers out of me.

This album did not (to use my previous phrase) make a believer out of me. I didn't enjoy it much and in fact didn't finish it. Maybe I'll give it a try another time, maybe not.

(Reposting what I had accidentally initially put in the "vs. Everybody" thread.)
Here is a couple-week old video interview with Van Dyke Parks to promote his new collaborative album (though spanning far more subjects than that).
He wears overalls more than most people.

Here is the song Stephen Kalinich referenced in his discussion with beachboystalkmatt and Greg, as a recent recording of a song he initially co-wrote with Dennis Wilson.
Here is a review of the album it appears on:

While on a googling tangent listening to the new Feel Flows, I learned today that in 1969, the three Dragon brothers independently recorded an album during off-hours at Sunwest Recording Studios in the hopes of landing a record deal. (Legendary engineer/producer Don Landee was the engineer on the recordings.) It was eventually released in 2007, though the fact escaped me at the time and since, until now.
It sounds somewhere between the Mothers of Invention and the Doors; or, one review I saw says it's a missing link between the Doors and the Doobie Brothers. Whatever the hell it is, it's impressive and it's a little out there. You can find the songs in this playlist (though out of order; see above link for proper running order, or to buy).

Al (and Adam) Jardine provide guest vocals on this song, " Best Summer Ever," by Drifting Sand. It is produced by Al's collaborator Stevie Heger.
My opinion? I am posting the song for the sake of completeness, not an endorsement...

I like Beach Boyish, fun-in-the-sun, throwback, summer-y songs, but this one is pretty bad.

When I first saw this ^, I felt a little sad for Nelson. Then I thought, hey, he's a working musician, doing something that he loves, playing some great music. Does anybody know/remember why he left Brian's band? I seem recall reading an interview with Nelson around that time, but I don't remember the details.

Does anybody know/remember why he left Brian's band? I seem recall reading an interview with Nelson around that time, but I don't remember the details. He's not the first musician from the BBs universe to play in an oldies/covers/tribute act. And I'm sure he's working around in other gigs, too. That does tend to be the musician's (and actor's, and artist's) life: a gig here, a gig there, keep working. As far as him leaving the band, I don't know for sure. But I do remember discussion of some really heavy drinking from Nelson back then. I believe he posted some inappropriate things about other musicians in the BBs universe--did he publicly criticize Stamos "saving the day" with "Forever" in the C50 tour and indicate it was a setup? I forget whether that allegation was anonymous or actually directly from Bragg--and he himself has publicly said he had a drinking problem at the time. I know he has said he's sobered up since, which I believe he credited to David Marks in part when they jointly appeared on Beach Boys Talk.

Hmm, okay, Al sings the lead on Good Vibrations and Don't Worry Baby? Pretty good renditions of the 62-66 hits. I wonder if they do any later stuff.
