My Dad was also a Beach Boys' fan. His favorite albums were Pet Sounds, Today, and believe it or not, Love You. Back in the day, I had one of the earliest VCR recorders/players, and I acquired some tapes of the band's TV appearances over the years. My Dad used to sit there and watch them with me. He was a fan of Brian; I think he was actually intrigued by Brian.

As someone who has had some issues over the years with depression, she really finds his story interesting as well as his music beautiful. With my dad, that isn't the case.
An old-school kind of guy, I think he's a little uncomfortable with it all, storywise.

This is a difficult one for me, although it should be easy. I heard "SJB" far too often back in the day. As for "YSGTM", I recall it was a big hit in the clubs with its "blazing Leslie'd guitar". It got plenty of airplay but not enough to put me off it. Much later (as in MUCH later), I came to love "Sloop" as one of Brian's very best creations chock-a-block with felicitous moments. So the 45 is lopsided in my memory of it. But I gave it ten -- I didn't know what else to give it! One last point before I dive back into my work: am I the only person in the world who hears a major resemblance between the first three notes of "YSGTM" and the first three notes of "Karma Chameleon"? Needless to say, the similarity ends there.

Needless to say, the similarity ends there. It's true. They fall on different beats, but very similar overall, including the same note.
Also, everyone: last day to get your votes in on "Sloop John B" and "You're So Good to Me." So please do, if you haven't.

This is tough. I'm waffling between a 9 and 10. More listening is required, apparently. I ended up going with a 9. I'm a big fan of "You're So Good To Me", and it's a highlight of SDSN for me, but when paired with the Pet Sounds standout it doesn't quite make it. So, not quite double A-side quality nor conceptually satisfying, that's why I went with a 9. I Get Around/Don't Worry Baby - 10 Surfer Girl/Little Deuce Coupe - 10 California Girls/Let Him Run Wild - 10 Help Me Rhonda/Kiss Me Baby - 10 Little Saint Nick/The Lord's Prayer - 10 Surfin' USA/Shut Down - 9 Sloop John B/You're So Good To Me - 9 Fun Fun Fun/Why Do Fools Fall In Love - 9 Be True To Your School/In My Room - 9 Do You Wanna Dance/Please Let Me Wonder - 9 When I Grow Up/She Knows Me Too Well - 9 Dance Dance Dance/Warmth Of The Sun - 9 Surfin' Safari/409 - 8 Man With All The Toys/Blue Christmas - 8 The Little Girl I Once Knew/There's No Other (Like My Baby) - 8 Barbara Ann/Girl Don't Tell Me - 7 Surfin'/Luau - 7 Ten Little Indians/County Fair - 7
