I saw Bobby Figueroa drum in concert a few times, both when he was stationed next to Dennis to enhance the drumming/percussion, and when Dennis was absent and Bobby was on his own. A great drummer - and he sang some high parts, too!

I have a question for Bobby:
Hi Bobby! You worked with The Beach Boys at a very tumultuous time in the group's - and Dennis Wilson's - career. Did you ever have a one-on-one, heart-to-heart talk with Dennis about him seeking help for his drug and alcohol problems? If yes, what was his response? Thank you.

Great show, guys! Bobby looked like he was having a great time. The neat part of these podcasts is that the guests really want to be there. They enjoy sharing their stories and memories, and they're in no hurry to leave!

The neat part of these podcasts is that the guests really want to be there. They enjoy sharing their stories and memories, and they're in no hurry to leave! This is the great part about properly interviewing sidemen and collaborators. (And I think the guys are doing a great job with the interviews.) These haven't been guys who think they should've been, or still might be, real stars trying to give attitude. And it's not the principals being interviewed for the 50,000th time.
With Figueroa and previously with White Johnson, this feels like guys who didn't really have an opportunity to tell their stories before--at least not nearly so often as the Beach Boys or, say, VDP. They have interesting perspectives, real investment in their own work, and they seem to really enjoy being asked ... which only makes sense! Nobody wants to be forgotten, and so to be appreciated for your role is bound to feel great.
I'd love for the show to just run through every willing co-writer, producer, and side musician the group ever had (that is still with us). And the tone--curious, affectionate, and not the gossipy tripe that has plagued the band and its fans--is just great, probably encouraging people to be guests. You know you won't be asked, "can you tell us about Dennis's orgies with Manson girls!?" or "did you ever see Brian try to give Carnie heroin!?" but rather, like on this episode, "what was the down-time between shows like, what did you do?" or "how did you go about working with Carl?"

Damnit! This is such a good question. We wanted to keep it pretty lite, but this would have been an amazing question to ask! Would love to know the answer.

Man - this really means a lot. I hope my brother reads this. It really is what we are going for - especially because we will be the first to tell you that, as interviewers, we have no idea what we are doing. The guests honestly have just been easy to talk with - and willing to share their stories. We have yet to have someone on that thinks that they are everything to the world. Instead, these folks have just been grateful and appreciative of their role in the groups history, and have been willing to share it. Those are the type of people we absolutely love, and want to hear more from. It's such a great idea, we really should go in search of the people that were there, but maybe never got a chance to share their story. I just love this so much. Thank you Kapitan for an awesome idea, and as always, the support of the board and this community.
