Between Brian and Al shows, I've seen Matt do it seven times. Of the two, I prefer Jeff, but Matt does it justice. I was especially impressed at Al's shows, considering he tries a challenging vocal without a ten piece band behind him.

2) Wiki shows--crediting C Slowinski--three bass players on the track: Al Jardine, and then both Glen Campbell and Ray Pohlman on electric 6-string basses. I'm going to try to listen closely later today and see whether I can discern that. It's pretty surprising. Pursuant to this, yesterday I finally did listen closely to try to hear all these basses. I went with both the full song and the instrumental track, and I definitely could hear two basses. Often playing the same thing, but with different tones. But I could never hear three at once.
It made me wonder if one of them was something minimal. For example--and this is just speculation about a theoretical possibility, not me saying this happened--if the intro was done separately from everything else, maybe Al plays those pickup notes. (I actually don't think that is actually the case, in that the linked track above makes pretty clear it was done at the same time as the rest of the track.)
Can anyone hear three basses?

Easy 10 for me. Probably their best single release, two of their 10 best songs. I can only think of one or two that put up a real fight - "Wouldn't it Be Nice" b/w "God Only Knows" being the main one. Was the I Get Around/Don't Worry Baby single - the moment it hit No 1 on July 4, 1964 - the peak of Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys - musically? I think it's certainly in contention! Not higher than Pet Sounds, but it's up there. Our guys had SO MANY hits, DWB doesn't seem to be praised or mentioned as often as God Only Knows, Good Vibrations, California Girls, but I would have to rate it in my BBs top 10. It does seem to be something of a "2nd tier" classic - if such a thing exists. Universally praised among BBs fans, but also kinda taken for granted. In other words, it's on the top-whatever lists, but near the bottom of them. Don't Worry Baby ... a ballad, but it has this really driving feel to it. This is very true. It's almost misleading to call it a ballad, because it really chugs along. It's about the same tempo as "Shelter," for example, which is another of those not-quite-ballad-but-not-rockers. The melody is so sweet, the lyrics are so vulnerable, it feels more like a ballad than it really is, if that makes sense. Totally agree with you guys. I hadn't really thought about it before, but I've always felt this way.

Let me see if I can do the math on this one...
Ten voters rated "IGA/DWB" a 10, for an average of, um, 10. It's the new, highest-rated single we've reviewed. Thanks for voting and discussion. I'll update the ratings thread. A new single and poll will be up shortly.

Okay, this just might be the best Beach Boys song ever - and Jeff knocks it out of the park! I'll have to put this one right up there with his version of Warmth of the Sun.
