Easy 10 for me. Probably their best single release, two of their 10 best songs. Yeah this is a tough one to beat. The perfect mix of Mike's strengths and Brian's strengths. Now I have to go listen haha

Two things I wanted to say about "I Get Around."
(I hate that we tend to say what we have to say on the first day or so and then either run out of discussion points or, if you're like me, just kind of forget or let time get away from you.)
1) How many better intros are there in pop/rock and roll music? I'd submit that there are very, very few. To me, this is almost as epic/grandiose as "California Girls," even though it is entirely different. Seven seconds long, a heavy pickup note, a single voice ... joined by a big chorus of sorts in slightly unexpected harmonies that works into the hook (not the verse). I love it. Brilliant.
2) Wiki shows--crediting C Slowinski--three bass players on the track: Al Jardine, and then both Glen Campbell and Ray Pohlman on electric 6-string basses. I'm going to try to listen closely later today and see whether I can discern that. It's pretty surprising.

I guess universal praise will ultimately lead to a pretty thin thread.

I think the "California Girls" intro was more appreciated on the album than AM radio, unless the DJs were creative - and some did love the lead-in.
We gotta get Mr. Slowinski active on here!

I guess universal praise will ultimately lead to a pretty thin thread. Maybe, but it's better than, say, a single troll with a contrarian take just for sport! I've seen my share of those over the years, too. While I love an informed and interesting contrarian take, I'd take consensus over trolling!

I'm not even saying its a bad thing that the thread hasn't gone too far. It's just the way it goes.

DWB got the most emotional reaction out of yours truly when I saw the Beach Boys Sept 2019. I don't even know the name of the lead singer - some young guy who was playing keyboards most of the show. He sure knocked DWB out of the park, though. Our guys had SO MANY hits, DWB doesn't seem to be praised or mentioned as often as God Only Knows, Good Vibrations, California Girls, but I would have to rate it in my BBs top 10.

In fact, I definitely rate it above "Good Vibrations" or "California Girls," and frankly I might rate it above "God Only Knows," too (though that's a closer call).

I do think (based on my seven years on various BB fan forums) that BB fans have a tendency to take the early songs for granted. But, yeah, DWB is easily a Top 10 BB song for me, maybe top five.

Don't Worry Baby was one of the songs I really loved prior to me becoming a more hardcore fan in 2012. It's a ballad, but it has this really driving feel to it. It's also one of their better productions, sounding much more crisp than a lot of other songs from that time.

Don't Worry Baby ... a ballad, but it has this really driving feel to it. This is very true. It's almost misleading to call it a ballad, because it really chugs along. It's about the same tempo as "Shelter," for example, which is another of those not-quite-ballad-but-not-rockers. The melody is so sweet, the lyrics are so vulnerable, it feels more like a ballad than it really is, if that makes sense.

That was my first time hearing it live (in Maryland not Japan as shown here). Being clueless to the modern live dynamics, I was at first disappointed that it wasn't sung by Brian. But, I've now heard Jeff sing it live four times and think he does a great job.

I think Jeff was most always phenomenal with that song. I really like Matt doing it, too. And frankly I respect anyone who can give it a go live, because that song is hard to sing. Not just high (though it is that), but hard to switch between registers smoothly.
