Bummer. Did he play music from the album? Or did he recreate it closely enough to fool the machines? Whatever the case, blocking videos like this is NOT in the best interest of the group!!! I was looking forward to watching it. Maybe, since he's already created the video and many fans are interested, he'll host it somewhere else. I hadn't watched this one yet, but in previous episodes he would play short snippets of the real music and sometimes sing or recreate on a guitar or keyboard certain voicings or chords here and there as he'd elaborate what was going on in the arrangement, etc. But nothing beyond what you'd see in any number of music-review or music-analysis YouTube videos. Certainly nothing that I'd think would violate fair use terms for critical works.

Gotta say, I really enjoy these Pet Squares episodes. I love this sort of thing generally, where anecdotes and music-geek details merge from someone who knows what he's talking about. And because Surfer Girl is the first Beach Boys album I really like, this is my favorite so far. Extremely interested in what's to come.

I've just been watching #3. I like Adam's delivery but I still prefer what Joshilyn does. I was really chuffed to see she gets a namecheck at 4:22! One of the few times I disagree with Adam is at 38:40. It's not "Big Girls Don't Cry" but "Walk Like A Man" that Brian breaks into on "Surfers Rule". "BGDC" gets the BB treatment on "Finders Keepers". That aside, I look forward to the next episode.

I look at them as doing such different things, I don't really think of them in relation to one another. Just like the guys with beachboystalk are doing still another thing.

You're right, Cap'n, they are all very different in what they do. It's just that Joshilyn's video manner appeals to me the most, to say nothing of her eye (or rather ear) for detail. But all three are doing wonderful things in their own way.

I've been watching these in reverse order for some odd reason, and I must say I can see quite a bit of improvement after the first installment. As I was watching the Surfin' Safari episode today, there were a few items that irked me a bit. Ok, Adam, you don't have to keep throwing in the disclaimer that you are not going to disclose "Beach Boys secrets". There really are no secrets after all these years of books, essays, movies, etc. Anything that is truly personal at this point would probably not be interesting to us fans (Brian uses what brand of toothpaste? ) The other thing was that it seemed like every time there was a certain statistic, such as chart position, etc. he would throw out a guess and then look at his computer screen for a correction. Research, dude! Be prepared before you roll the camera! Make a cheat sheet. Anyway just my nitpicks. As I've said, he's improved the presentation, and it's all good.

Here we go with PET SQUARES #4 - The Little Deuce Coupe album and most fascinating it is too. I can hazard a guess at the members of Craig's team and Jesus, Brian isn't the only one who should donate an ear to the Smithsonian!!!

Thanks for the reminder, I had seen that this was up but hadn't watched it yet. I've now added it to my Watch Later list.

And then there's this. I've taken the liberty of quoting Adam at EH, as he can explain it best: "I'm pleased to announce that the video for 'The Void,' Part 2 of the long-form musical poem THE MEANING by myself and Steve Kalinich, is now up on youTube ready to check out. The entire project will be available for download at karmafrog.bandcamp.com on July 15. "The video was made on two continents and includes much beautiful imagery from the south Pacific, specifically Bali, Indonesia. "THE MEANING was begun in 2016 and finished in 2020 during COVID-19 lockdown. It's not just random noodling behind a poetry reading, but a carefully scored experience to create a vivid backdrop for Stevie's words. Besides being a significant and meaningful work of prose from Stevie, it's some of my best-ever work as a musician. As I said, it will be fully available to stream and for download purchase on Bandcamp shortly. "Fans of the Beach Boys' more adventurous SMiLE/FRIENDS 'pictorial music' period should find much to enjoy, but the music goes into other areas as well." The YouTube blurb adds: "Filmed in Los Angeles, California and Bali, Indonesia. Video by Mike Schnee, Teresa Cowles, Rara Berutu, Adam Marsland. Photo credits include Ed Roach, Sanae Hamada, Koicihi Sawada." It sounds (and looks) fascinating!

I'm catching up on this series. Watched episodes 3 and 4 this weekend (Surfer Girl and Little Deuce Coupe). Just bumping the thread, really. If you haven't checked out his videos yet, give it a go!

The LDC video elicited a spectacular discussion at EH. Well worth checking out: endlessharmony.boards.net/thread/1585/ldc-album-days-new-squares
