Thank you for posting the article, Emdeeh. I've always been curious about that tour but read very little about it. I've said it before and I'll say it again. When it came to making music, the Beach Boys could be brilliant, but when it came to making intelligent career decisions, they almost always came up short. I'll also add that this was another example of not having a strong manager or somebody who was sensible enough to say, "Guys, this is not a good idea" - not that they would've listened anyway. At least the author said that The Beach Boys were nice guys.

I linked this interview in the 20/20 thread for reasons related to that album, but Dennis briefly discusses this tour in that same interview. It ought to be cued up, but if not, go to 5:42 for the relevant discussion. (It is only about a minute long. While unrelated, Dennis goes on to talk about mental illness immediately thereafter, which is very interesting especially for the time, 1976.)

In listening to Dennis discuss Brian in 1976-77, he (Dennis) had a very good awareness and perspective on Brian's problems. It's a shame how Brian's mental illness was ultimately addressed back then, and just as sad that Dennis couldn't, in turn, seek help himself.
