I'm fine with my "God" status, especially should I have any run-ins with Gozer the Gozerian. KDS, if someone asks you if you're a god, you say yes.

I'll give it some thought. It should really be Beach Boys related... I agree about changing it to something Beach Boys related. And, if possible, I'd like to suggest changing the parameters. For instance, the highest rank is only 500 posts. Perhaps, the highest rank should be something like 5,000 posts. If I think of any good ideas for the new names, I'll post 'em here. Maybe we could use lyrical content. I'm not sure what the common theme would be. This is pretty tongue-in-cheek but it might prompt others to think of a more serious BB-style ranking: Clockwork Cuckoo Mountain Bluebird Cornfield Crow Woody Woodpecker Beaked Eagle Trumpeter Swan Loving these editing possibilities!

Whether we change rank names or not, I added 6th rank with a mystery name that will be achieved with a certain number of posts.

Another idea could be cars... Little Deuce Coupe 409 (when you get to 409 posts!) Woodie Wagon T-Bird Jaguar XKE Jet Without Wings I don't know my cars so I don't know if this is the right order, or maybe there are some better examples? EDIT: Members who join and stay at 0 posts after a certain amount of time could be a No Go Showboat... is that mean?

We don't have to stick to one subject, so it could be something like: Rail Job (a car with only a seat, frame and engine, from Our Car Club) Cornfield Crow Little Bird etc.

...and some surfer terms:
Aggro - an aggressive surfer Barney - a surfer who is not cool, untalented, rookie Benny - a surfer who is not a local Betty - a surfer girl who surfs Booger - a body boarder
Bro or Brah - dude, brother, surfer Dude - a surfer friend Fakie - someone who rides backward on the surfboard, tail first
Frube - a surfer who does not manage to catch a wave for the entire time they are in the water Goat Boater - a derogatory term for kayakers and wave skiers

Namer - a surfer who shares a secret surf spot with others Noble Surfer - other than the title of a Beach Boys' song, I can't find any other use of the term
Paddlepuss - a person who plays in the white water and is afraid to stray from the beach Quimby - a beginning surfer who is usually annoying Shoobie or Shubie - a person who buys a surfboard and surf clothing but does not surf Sponger - derogatory term for a body boarder Wahine - a female surfer

I don't care much, but I will say that having never been either a surfing or car guy, those things don't resonate with me. That said, the odds of me looking at my own profile and valuing myself based on what designation we put there ... not good odds. So, carry on!
(Or as VDP once said to me in the greatest email closing ever, "trousers forward!")

Yeah, same here, and that goes for girls' names, too.
And, I need more on that VDP email!

Back when I was writing for a music website, I had occasions to interact with VDP on his work with Joanna Newsom and Inara George.
So I asked him about both of those. He replied in such a way that I figured he didn't care for working with Newsom ("the arrangements on Miss Newsom's CD were a pivotal advantage in relieving the monotony of constant harp arpeggiation. I respect her unique qualities as a songwriter. I think she should do her own arranging, because her ideas are quite specific, although in this case, redundant..."). But he certainly seemed to enjoy working with George (who is of course the daughter of Lowell George, whom he knew). "As for the new work I did for Inara George ... it was simply the most enjoyable experience I've had in arranging. She didn't hound me, but trusted my instincts. This created totally hand-in-glove results, and a most companionable atmosphere."
And then he closed the message "Trousers forward, Van Dyke"
I've been laughing at that phrase for a solid 12 years now.

Did the subject of Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys ever come up?

No, I am pretty sure I never touched that subject with him.

This is just for shits and giggles. The first four are mispellings (in alphabetical order) of Jack R’s last name in a thread on another forum (dedicated to him!): Jack Reiley (1+ post) Jack Reilly (10+ posts) Jack Rielly (100+ posts) Jack Riley (1,000+ posts) Jack Rieley (10,000+ posts) I think most of us would be stuck at Jack Rielly for rather a long time!
