I agree on that. And for the record, I do think he was incorrect. That voice was Blondie Chaplin, or someone who sounds exactly like him ... and I've never heard Carl sound like him. Maybe he's a great impressionist and that one time he sang exactly like Blondie, I don't know. But despite Mr. Desper's recollections, I think he was wrong on that one. I don't doubt that it happened (Carl or others singing), but I do seriously doubt that recording documented the event.
But again, that said, trying to show up a primary source to all of this great information, someone who has provided not only amazing music (for his role the first time around), but illuminating looks at that music and outtakes through his videos and stories? That was pretentious, rude, and unnecessary. Even if Mr. Desper was being somewhat thin-skinned, it's still pretentious, rude, and unnecessary.
Now I'm trying to remember how I responded. I don't think I did. I think I was just reading along.

I'll agree Desper could've handled it better, but sometimes dealing with Beach Boys fans is like dealing with toddlers, and occasionally, you just loose your shit a little.

sometimes dealing with Beach Boys fans is like dealing with toddlers, Sometimes ... like 9 out of 10 times.
I don't mean this with specific fans, I actually think most fans are perfectly reasonable. But once there's a critical mass of people, it seems inevitable that a few of them are going to stir it up either because they're really that zealous, or just for the fun of it, or to be king of their weird little internet hill.
It doesn't take many toddlers to ruin the fun for the grown-ups in the room.

I'm wondering if the new recording of "Add Some Music To Your Day" by The Beach Boys' Family & Friends that Bruce alluded to in his recent interview was somehow tied to the Feel Flows boxed set, maybe actually included in the set or used as a promotional vehicle.

I think so. It would be a heck of a coincidence otherwise.

Thinking about the status of this box set every day is a serious drag. Either announce the thing or put us out of our misery!

Courtesy of DonnyL, this interview w/Mike Love was recorded today. I've cued up to the relevant question and answer.
Here's the transcript.
Darren Paltrowitz: "The last time I interviewed you was two to three years ago, and during that interview you got a phone call from Jeffrey Foskett who had just discovered some kind of an archival release that you were thinking of putting out, and one thing that we haven't discussed is how many great archival releases from you and from The Beach Boys in the last three or four years. Is there lots and lots more in the vault that we can one day hope to hear?"
Mike Love: "Well I don't know how much there is in the vault, but I'd, I'll tell you this, we're coming up on probably the 60th anniversary of the group in another year or so, and that warrants something special that's for sure, and so, um, I've got some ideas on that but we're too early to talk about it. But um, uh, I think there will be opportunities to come up with compilations and and as you say archival but also new renditions with other artists and stuff of many of our songs and that, that'll be a lot of fun to do. And I think I'm looking forward to what the future may bring."

This doesn't bode well. Even without an official announcement or release date, you'd think if there weren't a problem with the box set that he'd mention it.

Well I don't know what else they asked him about but there's no specific word of a reunion here and yet Mike seems like hes up for anything. The interviewer evidently didn't know anything about the specific feel flows Box that we have been discussing unfortunately and the question was very general.

I didn't listen to the whole interview, but I wouldn't assume that the interviewer isn't aware of the box set. Even so, Mike thought of other projects to tease but not one that is much further along?

Yes, you would think if a boxed set was imminent, Mike would've mentioned it. However, in interviews, all of the Beach Boys have proven to be full of shit, so you never know.
What was also depressing was Mike's idea for a 60th Anniversary project - an album of old Beach Boys' songs recorded by The Beach Boys and other artists. Boy, I'll bet there's a big demand for that! Haven't they been there, done that? You just know they'd screw it up...again.
I've said it before (ad nauseam) and I'll say it again. Would some manager or somebody who has a clue please step up and intervene!

You’re a smooth customer in the face of Stars and Stripes Vol. 2, KDS. It did sound like Mike is hinting at something like that, didn't he? Or worse. Imagine modern pop stars on a new S&S.

If only we could adjust the voice in Mike’s head from saying “DO IT!” to “DON’T DO IT!”
