I can't say this one excites me all that much. I'm moderately curious about it, but it's not the sort of release that'll get me all worked up. (That is, unless there is something so remarkable about it that for whatever reason it converts me.)

Here is the new track. Thoughts?

It's fine, and has been pretty easy to listen to even before this release. I'm not sure how many casual fans would even notice much of a difference between this and the version on Sunflower. You know, between this and last week's release, I just don't have any enthusiasm left.

Meh. This version sounds like a bit of a dirge compared to the one that appears on Sunflower.

I'm curious about the speed correction. Is that what's happening here? This sounds slower. Were some of the Sunflower songs speeded up...inadvertently or intentionally?

We know they varied tape speeds at different times quite intentionally for different, specific reasons (e.g. on "Caroline No" to get a certain feel; or more generally to help with hitting certain high harmonies and such). I would not expect there to have been any inadvertent speed changes in that era. Desper et al knew what they were doing.

The version on Sunflower was sped up, about 4.7% if a post on SS is to be believed. I had always wondered that myself based on some of the vocals sounding a bit thing.

Seems like a half-step's worth as I compare both the original and the new FF one (using my admittedly needing-a-tune piano), from Eb to E.

OK, so the next logical question would be - whose idea was it to speed up the track? Dennis? Was Murry lurking again?

Funny you should say that, because as funny and ironic as it is, it was actually Murry who made the suggestion to speed it up. Yes, for like the fifth time in their career. First with the album version of Surfin, then with please let me wonder, then with Caroline know, and then with slip on through

Interesting. What's the source for that? I'm wondering whether I knew and forgot or never knew at all.
