My most recent post in the Beach Boys v Everybody Else thread (linking to Ugly Kid Joe's "I Hate Everything About You") got me thinking: what's the worst song I've ever liked? Because yes, I did like that one when it was new. I was 14 or 15, I could play the song on guitar, the lead singer struck me as cool looking, its humor was pretty much ideal for a boy that age.
I'm not embarrassed about it. I don't feel guilty about these things, but just laugh. Yet now I can say unequivocally, that song is terrible. It's a novelty song that probably warranted a running time of about two minutes, yet it's more than four minutes long!
Sadly I don't think it's the worst song I ever loved. I've been racking my brain thinking what might earn that title.
In the meantime, I thought I'd pose the same question to the group: what's the worst song you ever loved?

You guys must remember the 1996 hit "I Love You Always Forever" by Donna Lewis. Well, I was just a kid then, my birthday was coming up...

You know what, that name (both artist and title, actually) meant nothing to me. I just watched the video, and I'm still not sure I remember it. The refrain seems vaguely familiar, but it might just be in that "I-could-imagine-having-heard-this-before" kind of way that is true of many pop songs.
I know I was mostly in my own little world when it came to popular music around this time, but apparently I was more divorced from reality than I thought.

I usually don't listen to this band but: 1. the song is catchy 2. Sandra, the lead singer.

Oh man, I used to like that Ugly Kid Joe song, too. And I remember the Donna Lewis song. Leaving both of those firmly in the past where they belong, lol. As for me... I mean, just trying to pick one "worst" song that I loved... yikes. I'm not going to apologize for things I liked when I was a kid, but this one's embarrassing. It's getting real here, folks I bought this tape when I was 13. When my mom found it, she was mortified, and she took it away from me. In retrospect, I can't say I blame her. Please don't judge me!

I still like that Ugly Kid Joe song, and that album is still pretty good. And I actually heard that Samantha Fox song recently, and it's a pretty well done pop song.
But, here are the skeletons in my closet.
Vanilla Ice - Ice Ice Baby - I was in the fifth grade, going through a short lived rap phase. I got his cassette for Christmas, and was super excited for his cameo in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sequel.
Three Doors Down - Kryptonite - The late 90s / early 00s was an absolute shit show in terms of guitar based rock. In 2000, I was desperate for some new acts to follow. I heard this song on the radio in Spring, and loved it. B the 2,987th time I'd heard it, it began to grate. Now, I realize the only thing that separated Three Doors Down from other butt rock bands of the late 90s / early 00s was that the singer didn't do the grungy "yarling" thing. But, it's shit, it's total shit.
Godsmack - Early 00s again. Again, I wanted some new metal bands to follow. So, I liked Godsmack's first two riff heavy albums. I even paid, paid hard earned money, to see them in concert in the summer of 2001. The most boring show I've ever attended. My love of this band quickly waned, especially as I discovered that there were bands out of Europe at the time doing real metal.

I was just skipping through a super old playlist and found this one. Oh dear. I have no excuse for this... I was a full grown adult when this song came out.
*hangs head in shame*
