First of all, this is the first time I've ever listened to "Cheeseburger in Paradise." (As I had said before, the only Buffet song I know I know is "Margaritaville." It's possible I've heard others, but am not aware of them. I did not recognize this one beyond the title.)
I'm with B.E.: 100% "Vega-Tables." Any version. The singing is much better, the vocal arrangements are brilliant, and count me in as one of those who loves the lyrics, which are dumb but in a fun and funny way. Quirky Brian works for me, always has.
I didn't hate CiP, but it didn't do much at all for me.
I would rather eat a cheeseburger and have a beer than eat carrots or celery, though.

To each their own. I don't find any version of Vegetables to be particularly fun.
Surely not a trap, I know I'm setting Mr. Buffett up for failure here.

I don't know where fun is.) I have, MANY MANY TIMES in my life, been told I "hate fun" because I don't consider Activity X or Topic Y to be fun. It's one of my biggest pet peeves, actually. So I won't impose my idea of fun onto you, sir.

I know across many BB fans, many still songs like Vegetables or Take a Load Off Your Feet are fun, while at the same time looking at Buffett's songs about cheeseburgers, margaritas, and day drinking with an amount of disdain.

Sorry, KDS, but I'm also on team Vegetables here. But Cheeseburger is a pretty fun song, too.

Sorry...just not a Jimmy Buffett fan, though through the years people have asked me if I was because of my Beach Boys' fandom. "Vegetables" gets my vote.

Well, I'm a glutton for punishment. Here's another match up of Mr. Buffett and The Beach Boys. In 1978, The Beach Boys released an ode to lazy Sundays in Sweet Sunday Kind of Love. Written by Brian and Mike, sung by Carl, it's a lightweight song that captures that feeling of Sunday afternoon. Jimmy Buffett had first hit top 40 hit in 1974 with an ode to another favorite day of the week...um....Monday?
Sweet Sunday Kind of Love v. Jimmy Buffett - Come Monday (1974)
I really like the Beach Boys song here, and I've said this before, but the soft / yacht rock sound of this, and much of the next album LA Light, suited them well. Buffett's song is one of his best songs, and one of the tracks that helped lure me into the world of pirates, rums, beaches, parrots, and such. So, I have to give the nod to Jimmy here.
Summer's end is drawing close, so not to worry folks, I'll soon be out of Buffett mode, but I do have one more matchup in mind.

"Sweet Sunday Kinda Love" for me, which is actually one of the Beach Boys songs of that era I like best, though I know its reputation isn't especially good. "Come Monday" is nice, too. If Carl Wilson were the lead singer for it, I may well have gone that way.

"Come Monday" is a good song, a good radio song, but it's not one that I seek out. "Sweet Sunday Kinda Love" is also a good song but not one that I seek out. "Sweet Sunday Kinda Love" is unjustly criticized because it's part of M.I.U. I never understood how Brian's songs on Wild Honey and Friends about washing dishes, making pies, sitting and closing his eyes, and giving directions to his house are viewed as charming, but "Sweet Sunday Kind Of Love" gets no respect. It's a nice Brian slice-of-life song about lounging around on a Sunday with someone you care about sung perfectly fine - yes, perfectly fine - by Carl Wilson. 'Nuff said!
When it's Jimmy Buffett vs. The Beach Boys, sorry, kds, the Boys are probably going to win, and this one is no different.

I've never thought of it as a slice of life song. I guess it is. But to me, it has always been more an example of a throwback song. Just a sweet, old-fashioned ballad.

When listening to "Sweet Sunday Kinda Love", I usually get a visual of a Beach Boy (I guess Carl) laying around bed/the house on a Sunday:
- We'll read the funnies together and watch some TV, too - We'll fill the hours together with things that we both like to do - Why don't we unplug the phone, let's pretend nobody's home - When we awaken to hear from a songbird up above
It's Wild Honey/Friends/Sunflower-like. I also like The Honeys' version. "Sweet Sunday Kinda Love" had potential to be a duet. I can hear Carl and Marilyn or Brian and Marilyn.

"Come Monday" is a good song and production. I gave it serious consideration, but I gotta go with "Sweet Sunday Kinda Love". Not just because I'm a bigger Beach Boys fan, but like you guys, I'm a bigger fan of "Sweet Sunday Kinda Love" than the consensus tends to be.
KDS, I was curious what you thought of this Top 10 list. A YouTube channel I subscribe to recently posted a reaction to these songs (as chosen by a subscriber). I listened to it. My biggest takeaway was that he's got a very nice voice. And of the artists that I'm most familiar with, he reminded me most of James Taylor. While my interest ebbed and flowed, "One Particular Harbour" stood out to me. That's a lot of fun, and it's soothing. Oh, and I'll take "He Went To Paris" over Mike's "All The Love In Paris" hands down!
1. A Pirate Looks Forty 2. He Went To Paris 3. The Captain and The Kid 4. Come Monday 5. Changes In Latitudes, Changes In Attitudes 6. Floridays 7. One Particular Harbour 8. Last Mango In Paris 9. Trying To Reason With Hurricane Season 10. The Night I Painted The Sky

The Night I Painted The Sky His early music especially is somewhat like James Taylor. In fact, Taylor's Mexico has been often mistaken for a Buffett song. Buffett later covered in on his 1995 Barometer Soup album. That's a really solid Top 10, as it leans towards his ballads, which are my favorites. A Pirate Looks at Forty is probably my favorite song of his. I'd have to really think about a top ten, but Changes in Latitudes and Hurricane Season would probably make it. I was actually thinking of pitting He Went to Paris against Belles of Paris, but I think I'm going to back off on Buffett v Boys match ups, even though I have one in mind for summer's end. I am glad to see so much fondness for Sweet Sunday Kind of Love. I actually thought I was throwing a lob ball to Buffett on that.

I also got James Taylor vibes from "The Night I Painted The Sky" which was released in 1995.
I liked "Hurricane Season", too.
Oh, I'll DEFINITELY take "He Went To Paris" over "Belles of Paris", but I recall differing with you on the latter. I'm not a fan of that one. "He Went To Paris" is very good.
