I can't get Paul Simon's "Me And Julio Down By The Schoolyard" out of my head these days. Maybe it's the bits at 1:00 and 1:58...

The Turtles did some fascinating stuff, from surf music to folk to pop to rock to psychedelic music. A very eclectic group, and great singers, too!

The story of Flo and Eddie being incorporated into Frank Zappa's groups in the early '70s is an interesting and bizarre one, in large part apparently based on Zappa's amusement about having been told earlier in his career some L.A. disc jockey said if they'd clean themselves up, he thought he could make Zappa's Mothers of Invention "as big as the Turtles," as was reprinted in their debut album liner notes.

Song I love anyway, very pretty version. Been enjoying it again this morning. I can even forgive that god-awful cover photo.

I despised it at the time it was released. A friend tried to get me to give it another chance a few years ago. I did. No change in my opinion. I think Rivers Cuomo basically is good with the broad strokes but his arrangements are so boring.

That's a very nostalgic album for me, jk. Growing up, my friend's family used to go to North Carolina every spring break. I went with them twice. I remember listening to it on repeat (we drove down from NJ!). "The Sweater Song", in particular, was a favorite. It was his older brother's music, but it became ours for a while. For a few years, I was a big Weezer fan.

While not a big fan by any means, I can offer one little ray of positivity: I liked their "Endless Bummer" in 2016.

I was always fairly indifferent to them until Say It Ain't So became a sing-along song at the bar I used to frequent.

Love that song. Reveal is a beautiful album, a lot of sun drenched sounds on it.

Roxy Music! I was going to post this in the Lounge but since this is on-topic regarding music...
Finally broke through my music listening block and dove in, starting with their 1972 self-titled debut, which is outstanding. Then listened to the follow-up For Your Pleasure, which I liked a bit less, but may just be a case of not being able to trust my first impression. Then jumped ahead to their 1982 album Avalon which I'm listening to as I type this (thanks for the recommendation jk). Great album, I'm really enjoying it! More than This is a classic. The title track is as lovely and calming as jk said it was. But I'm really digging and The Main Thing and Take A Chance With Me (the one that's on now).
EDIT: Woops, it was To Turn You On that jk recommended... just heard it, and I love it! This is such a good album.

Entering the 80's, the only Roxy Music song I knew was "Love Is The Drug". Then, when MTV hit in 1981-82, they played the videos of "More Than This" and "Avalon" every hour - and I mean every hour! For some reason, "Angel Eyes" was in heavy rotation, too, going back a few years to Manifesto. But it was great stuff, great times.

"More Than This" took on a new dimension for me after its appearance in the wonderful film Lost in Translation, as sung in a karaoke bar by Bob Harris (Bill Murray):

Possibly the ultimate Paul Stanley song.
