In the article, Al says, "Yeah, they'll definitely be three big tribute concerts - at least that's the plan."
Al is nuts, and is notorious for saying things that have absolutely no basis in fact. However, in this case, I wouldn't be surprised if this is the preliminary plan for the 60th Reunion - emphasis on preliminary. I could see BRI/Iconic/maybe Capitol Records coming up with something like this. It wouldn't be hard to assemble an All-Star cast to perform a bunch of Beach Boys' classics, leading into The Beach Boys taking the stage, complete with a full-cast encore. This could easily be sold, marketed, and lead to much more. I'm thinking of a Rolling Thunder-type extravaganza that could (?) tour the country and culminate in, yes, another live album, but also a fascinating documentary/movie. It would be crucial to select the best possible opening acts/cast, but if done wisely (and that's never a given with The Beach Boys), could lead to a very entertaining event. I think there would several performers who would love to be approached for something like this, maybe even some pleasant surprises.

Agreed, except I'd bet if they do three shows they have different guests each night. Especially if they're in different cities, but regardless.
Just a guess, though.

I'm picturing Tenacious D opening the show
"This is not the long awaited Beach Boys reunion fans have wanted......this is just a tribute."

In all seriousness, I dread the guest stars. Maybe we'll get lucky and, considering it will presumably be a real, final farewell, they will land some legitimate longtime admirers a la McCartney and Costello, and some really good younger acts. But history tells me it's going to be B-listers and once-hot, now-passe "young" stars who are no longer so young.
I can see it now: David Crosby, Danny Hutton, Cher, and Green Day as legends; Jakob Dylan, Avril Lavigne, Keith Urban, Macklemore, and of course Sugar Ray as hot current acts.

I don't know, with new management, maybe The Beach Boys (Mike specifically) will look beyond that banner pop year of 1997 for their "young" talent. Although, looking at the current state of pop, be careful what you wish for there. We might get Arianna Grande whine / moaning her way through God Only Knows or Billie Eilish whispering In My Room. (I still have a some old grouch left in me after all).

If Billy eilesh were to record in my Room with The Beach Boys singing the background harmonies and Dave playing guitar and it were listed as Billy E with The Beach Boys and it became number one would it count as a number 1 single for The Beach Boys ?

Depends on the credits, I'd imagine. Probably the best answer is "kind of," because it would probably be released as Billie Eilish feat. The Beach Boys, vice versa, or something like that.
Though you know what's funny? I can totally imagine Billie Eilish doing "In My Room." (I'm not saying it's something I'd want to happen, but that is a perfect choice for her, and obviously she's a huge draw. I can easily imagine her speak-singing those sentiments. The hardest part to imagine is probably the idea of David Marks adding guitar, as Eilish probably has no use for such a thing.)

Perhaps that's right but since he is one of the original guitarists on the song any version of it would have to have Dave's playing in order to be meaningful for me but of course this is the 1 subject where I am uncompromising. Just always protective of my favorite beach boy so I hope you all understand . I'm just thinking that Dave is not usually featured for his harmony vocals so he'd have to contribute that way
And you can say to me professor no one is saying that anybody is recording the song so why are you trying to be the producer? And I would say yes this is really insane.

Sure, it's all total speculation. Which is all we can do until something a little more substantive happens.
