This filmed concert from late 2014 was done to promote Brian Wilson's No Pier Pressure album.
The DVD is the closest we've gotten to date of a full Brian Wilson concert on film. For that reason alone, I think it's nice release.
It features Al Jardine, although unlike the current configuration of Brian's live band, Al is not present on every single song. Blondie Chaplin and Ricky Fataar are also guests, as well as several of the guests who appeared on the NPP album (hence the "and Friends"). Some of them perform Beach Boys classics along with their NPP contributions. Sebu does a pretty good version of Don't Worry Baby after his Runaway Dancer thing (which to be fair does sound better live). Nate Ruess singing Hold On Dear Brother with Blondie and Ricky is the highlight of the show for me.
The concert is at times broken up by studio footage, like Zooey Daschunel's contribution (I guess she was unavailable when the concert was filmed).
This concert also offers the only live versions of This Beautiful Day, Half Moon Bay, and Saturday Night. I remember being somewhat surprised that neither of these were played on the NPP Tour. The only live version of Pacific Coast Highway is included as a bonus track, along with Summer's Gone. It's somewhat odd that they didn't do the full trilogy, considering Al was present.
Previously sold as a stand alone DVD / BluRay, it was later reissued with a CD companion, which includes a slightly different track list, including California Girls and California Saga: California. Frustratingly, Hold On Dear Brother is not on the CD, but I suppose we needed another live version of Fun Fun Fun instead.
