This 77 minute film documents the beginning of Brian's solo touring career. It mixes behind the scenes footage, some adulation from famous BW fans like Paul McCartney, Pete Townshend, and Neil Young, and some footage of Brian and his great band doing some Beach Boys classics.
There was actually a mild controversy about this DVD among BB/BW fans because Brian drops an F-bomb during the concert footage. (Some Brian Wilson fans just hate spontaneous displays of humanity for reasons unknown).
As Kapitan noted on the PS Live section, it's easy to forgot how big of a deal it was that Brian Wilson was doing shows at all. And I think this film succeeds at sharing how big of a deal it was.
I'll be interested to see how this differs from the Long Promised Road doc.

My recollection of this from the time of its release--and if I'm wrong, I apologize--was that they marketed it almost to run away from the "freak show" aspect of Brian's return. Instead of "Come see the reclusive genius! [He might break down!]" it was "Brian Wilson, working, touring musician."
Although watching it, of course, you still get plenty of the former. You see a very nervous Brian on numerous occasions, and you get plenty of the typical fawning adulation.
I haven't watched it in years, but I did really enjoy it and watch it repeatedly for several years after it came out.

Part of me (the cynical part) is wondering if the LPR doc is coming out to try to quiet the "Brian is being forced to tour" narrative.

But isn't LPR described as mostly Brian hanging around (or driving around) LA? So not really a tour doc?
Whatever its angle, though, you can assume it has one. All of these artist-released "documentaries" have a marketing message. I used to be a sucker for band/artist documentaries. Now, as more and more are released by the artists themselves, I have less patience. They're too often, too obviously just extended commercials.

I think the driving around is part of it, but I recall there's also supposed to be a lot more of the famous musicians fawning over Brian bits included. I also think that there's almost too many music docs coming out now. It's hard to keep track.

Oh, you've gotta have the fawning! That's essential for BW product! Whether it's Sean Lennon implying that minor 7th chords were Brian's brilliant invention (uhhh...) or Tom Petty comparing him to Beethoven or some Fleet Fox saying whatever he says...
Totally agree about too many docs. Much like multiple cable news channels meaning they need to fill the time, with all the streaming services out there these days, they need content. Everybody and their dog seems to release a "film" (he says, mocking the pretentiousness) every album or two. Behind the scenes on your, concert footage, comeback album, history, whatever.

Right, it's much easier to release music docs now since you don't have to rely on fans' willingness to pay $20 for a tape or DVD.
