Meanwhile (and I won't say much to politicize it) as we are just entering the kind of severe measures apparently necessary, the president seems to have reversed course and indicate we're almost through it and should restart the economy.
That's what I worry about, honestly: people feeling that half-measures were sufficient and returning to normal too soon, only to see the virus really explode (again). I think we need to go all-out sooner than later and just endure it. Get it over with.

Maryland shut down "non essential" businesses. I put that in quotes because the list is businesses still open is quite long. Humorously, NJ’s list includes liquor stores. I had been unaware that liquor is akin to water in its essential nature. I guess it has to do with not being able to purchase alcohol at grocery stores, convenient stores, or gas stations in NJ.

Hey now, that's serious business! If we're going to be holed up inside, we need something to pass the time... Minnesota also doesn't allow alcohol sales except in liquor stores, so I'm curious how we'll rule on that. It has been a topic of much discussion among friends and colleagues!

Sadly but predictably, the 2020 Olympics are being postponed to 2021.

Liquor and beer stores have been deemed essential services here. Thank goodness.

Regarding liquor sales, I've read some reports that restricting or removing alcohol from alcoholics in such an abrupt manner could cause serious health problems for them. It would be akin to detoxing cold turkey. It is something to consider.

It would be akin to detoxing cold turkey. It is something to consider. To REALLY cheer people up (or add insult to injury these days), I can confirm that: a good friend of mine had a very serious problem that came to a head about a year and a half ago. His first week sober--even hospitalized and with medication--was brutal, and the subsequent few weeks were no picnic, either.
So as silly as it might sound, that's actually true. I hadn't thought of it, but it would be horrific for people with those serious habits.

It's no surprise but the 4/8/20 Beach Boys' concert in Hershey, PA that I have tickets for has officially been cancelled. I hope they reschedule it. I was looking forward just as much to spending an evening out with some old friends and fellow BB fans.

There was one on 4/7/20 scheduled for DC that got moved to 12/1/20, so maybe a Hershey date in December? You'll get some Christmas songs in the setlist if that's the case.

Oh, wow, I didn't know they were rescheduling so quickly. I would love to attend a Christmas show. Of all the BB concerts I've seen (over 35), I've never heard a Christmas song performed.

I was really hoping for a BW Christmas show two years ago when he and his band were doing the 1964 Christmas album in full, but I went to a Mike and Bruce show that year. I think they played half of the BB Christmas album, and a few tracks from Mike's Christmas album.

Ooh! Now you guys have me hoping the April 11 show I have tickets for will be rescheduled to December! They've yet to announce a new date. It does say that all events are postponed unless otherwise indicated, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. A Christmas Beach Boys show would really be something to look forward to at the end of this year.
