I missed the Smiley Smile discussion so I'll first say that I love that album cover. It might be one of my all time favourites. Beautiful, whimsical, pyschedelic, arty. The green colour is calming. It perfectly represents the music within. And was my phone's wallpaper for like 2 years, lol.
The Friends cover is nice if I don't look at it too hard. Dreamy, pretty colours. The faces in the clouds and the trees are strange though. While agree that there are a lot of other ways they could have approached this cover, I don't really have a problem with how it turned out, for the most part. It suits the music.

I think the front cover is a rather poor attempt at a Revolver-esque cover.
The back cover is wonderful. And I agree with BE's way of viewing that beautiful sunset. And even though it's not a beach themed album, I could definitely see myself listening to it as the sun went down on a hot summer day (although I'd probably hit stop after Diamond Head).

I always thought the Wild Honey album cover was a continuation of sorts of the Smiley Smile album cover...more colorful flowers and leavers and, instead of animals, we get a bee for the "honey" aspect. Wild Honey was released on December 18, 1967, so I guess many fans got the album as a Christmas present (from last-minute shopping parents?). As 1968 approached, Flower Power was sadly turning to guns, wars, and rioting, but that didn't stop our guys. "Student Demonstration Time" was still three years away. Was the Wild Honey cover/title/reference cool? Could one get high from it, the WILD honey? If fans only knew that the inspiration for Wild Honey was a window pane.
I suppose the front album cover is...OK. It doesn't knock me out (neither does the album but that's for another thread ). It is colorful. The continuation of dismissing the surf & turf image continued. The back cover? The black and white photos are back! And, our boys are growing up - plenty of facial hair there. A Steve and Arny got to say a few words (I wonder how many fans thought, "Who in the hell is Steve and Arny?). Meh, who cared. Sweet, sweet, honey bee...eat, eat it up, eat it up, honey...

I like the cover, both objectively and as an object of (how I imagine, anyway) the times.
