Of KDS's list, I've only seen Elf. I liked it.
I should watch Scrooged again. I like Bill Murray and don't think I've seen that since it was released...

It's been a while since I've seen Scrooged, too. Speaking of being a '90s kid, I just gotta share that I even had one of those Talkboys popularized by Home Alone 2. Okay, carry on.

Oh, I'm a big fan of The Santa Clause and Jingle All The Way! I mean, I was a '90s kid, so perfect timing. I watched Home Improvement and Schwarzenegger movies. I wonder if age played a role in your disliking of The Grinch? My siblings and I were probably the perfect age to enjoy it. We still reference it to this day. I think age played a bigger part in my not liking The Santa Clause. Born in 1980, so I was 14 when I saw it. And, I was at that age when I started to cast childish things aside. I did watch Home Improvement, which was why I checked out the movie in the first place. I pretty much grew out of that around 17 or 18 when I started to re-embrace my inner child. I think I even got away from my beloved Christmas specials briefly there in high school. Similarly, I didn't take to A Nightmare Before Christmas at the age of 13. But, thanks to my wife, I gave both Nightmare and The Santa Clause second chances in my 30s, and now love both. Now, like I said, I was starting to go back to stuff I liked as a kid, so when it was announced that Jim Carrey was doing a live action Grinch when I was 20, I was super excited. Visually, the movie is very cool. And, while I know it's a different interpretation, I hated the way they turned the Whos down in Whoville into villains. The whole point of the Seuss story is that the Whos are good hearted people who didn't need presents to be happy on Christmas. But, the Whos in the movie were assholes. So, I was disappointed, and twenty years later (Wow, I can't believe it was that long ago), I really don't think a second watch would help.

Home Alone 2 is an unfairly maligned movie IMO. Yeah, it hits all the same beats at the original (see also Ghostbusters II, Major League II, The Hangover II, etc), but I find it just as enjoyable.

Heh. Having been a few years too old, I have to admit I never even heard of such a thing as the Talkboy. (I also only ever saw the first Home Alone, so I didn't see it in the sequel.)
The only movie/toy tie-in I vividly remember was from my early childhood, with the Speak n Spell from ET. I was 6 then. (I didn't ever get one.) I think that's also the first time I ever heard of Reese's Pieces.

"Home Alone 2" is much funner than 1st. Hugely entertaining.🥳🤡🍫

The original Home Alone has some product placement of its own. "Fuller, easy on the Pepsi."

Maybe just because it's a new release. Scrooged used to be one I made a point to watch every year. Of course, that was pre parenthood. The last two years, I think I've watched a total of two Christmas movies.

What you think about "Christmas Story" (1983)? Ain't it fun Christmas flick?

A Christmas Story ranks a close third behind Scrooged and Christmas Vacation.
Although I've watched Scrooged and Christmas Vacation in one sitting far more times each, I feel like I've seen A Christmas Story more as I've caught it in pieces many times over the years. Before Turner got the rights, and started the 24 hour marathon from 8pm Christmas Eve to 8pm Christmas Day, I swear it was on TV every day in December. But, I've probably sat down and watched it uninterrupted from start to finish a total of four times, which is amazing because I've actually purchased the movie twice (VHS, and later on DVD).

For anyone looking on an entertaining twist on a classic, I'd highly recommend the episode of The Real Ghostbusters called "X-Mas Marks the Spot."
I believe the show is on Netflix, and it features a great twist on A Christmas Carol. I watched it last night for the first time in a few years.
