A bit of an obscure Christmas song - the word "Christmas" isn't mentioned in the song - sung by the great Johnny Mathis, "When A Child Is Born":

There's several cover versions of Chuck Berry's "Run Rudolph Run" out there - some good and some not so good. I just heard Cheap Trick's version of the song on Music Choice's Sounds Of The Season cable-TV channel and was quite impressed. Cheap Trick still rocks! I'm posting the studio version and a cool live version:

At the grocery store, I kept hearing the dreadful Kelly Clarkson take on Run Rudolph Run. Her Christmas music could turn Buddy the Elf into a Scrooge.

On Christmas Eve it was requested that I put together a playlist for Christmas Day. Of course, I was glad to, but I didn't have much time. So, I decided to stick to a few favorite albums. Initially, I was planning on limiting it to 80 minutes so I could put it on a CD, but I ended up abandoning that idea. I also initially planned on not repeating any songs, but I ended up making a few exceptions. What I really like about it, though, is how I broke up the artists. I made blocks of 3-6 songs. The equivalent of a side or EP. And I think the sequencing from song to song and block to block works really well. I was even pleased with the volume levels. Fortunately, the CDs I sourced from were similarly mastered. Anyway, I got to listen to what I wanted to listen to and got numerous compliments along the way. A win-win. We probably ended up listening to it 3 times in total.
39 Songs - 1 hour 44 minutes
1. Elvis Presley - Here Comes Santa Claus (Right Down Santa Claus Lane) 2. Elvis Presley - Santa Bring My Baby Back (To Me) 3. Elvis Presley - Blue Christmas 4. The Beach Boys - Little Saint Nick 5. The Beach Boys - The Man With All The Toys 6. The Beach Boys - Santa's Beard 7. The Beach Boys - Merry Christmas, Baby 8. The Beach Boys - Christmas Day 9. Phil Spector - Winter Wonderland 10. Phil Spector - A Marshmallow World 11. Phil Spector - Frosty The Snowman 12. Phil Spector - Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer 13. Phil Spector - Here Comes Santa Claus 14. Elvis Presley - Silent Night 15. Elvis Presley - (There'll Be) Peace In The Valley [For Me] 16. Elvis Presley - O Little Town Of Bethlehem 17. The Beach Boys - We Three Kings Of Orient Are 18. The Beach Boys - Blue Christmas 19. The Beach Boys - Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town 20. The Beach Boys - White Christmas 21. The Beach Boys - I'll Be Home For Christmas 22. The Beach Boys - Auld Lang Syne 23. Elvis Presley - I Believe 24. Elvis Presley - It Is No Secret (What God Can Do) 25. Elvis Presley - Where No One Stands Alone 26. Love the list, B.E.
I also like to include George (and Ringo!) in my Beatles' Christmas mix next to John and Paul's hits. Interesting choice of "(Give Me Love) Give Me Peace On Earth". I never thought of that one, but it does work. There's not many George songs to use and I usually go with "Ding Dong, Ding Dong":

The Everly Brothers had a Christmas album? I'm not quite ready to get in the Christmas spirit just yet, but this gets first spin! Sheriff John Stone , any thoughts on this one?

I saw a teaser on Trans Siberian Orchestra's Facebook page that said "Something is stirring 10/22." They're not touring, so maybe they're about to release another Christmas album. They've not released a full Christmas album since 2004's Lose Christmas Eve.

And then, I just saw Blackmore's Night is releasing a few new Christmas songs digitally. Their Winter Carols album has become one of my all time favorite Christmas albums, so I'll look forward to this, even if it's only digital.
