Growing up Catholic, I did hear, and love, a lot of the non secular (I only this year learned the true meaning on this term on this very forum) Christmas songs, and many of them are among my favorites like What Child Is This, Oh Holy Night, God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman, and We Three Kings. Those are actually my favorite Christmas songs, too. O Holy Night in four-part harmony is one of the great things to hear this time of year.

I do love the Brian Wilson version with the Wondermints, but imagine had The Beach Boys tackled it in 1964.

I gotta add "Silent Night" and "The First Noel" to these.

Thanks to Spotify, I've been checking out some late career Christmas albums by various legacy artists. I've listened to Xmas albums from The Moody Blues, Jethro Tull, Cheap Trick (already mentioned), and Eric Clapton. I just discovered America's 2002 album, Holiday Harmony. Very solid album. The three originals "Christmas In California", "Winter Holidays", and "A Christmas To Remember", as well as, "Frosty The Snowman", "The First Noel", and "Silent Night" are my favorites. This is a group, and album, that I'd expect Beach Boys fans to like, but that's not really something I've observed on the forums. For a late career album, it's impressive. Some very strong singing and vocal harmonies. Solid production. I really got some major Beach Boys vibes, but I also thought they did a good job incorporating their own sound without it sounding forced.

I've got to admit, despite their reputation as a good harmony group and even proximity to some Beach Boys at times, I've never given them the time of day.

Other than a best of comp I have, I'm not overly familiar with them. I also checked out Chicago's first Xmas album. It's ok. I think its from the 1990s.

There's a strange story with Chicago's first Christmas album. First of all, you're right, it's an OK album. It has it's moments; a couple of really nice tracks in there.
In 1998, Chicago released Chicago XXV: The Christmas Album - 14 tracks at 51 minutes. Then, in 2003 they reissued it with six additional, newly-recorded songs AND a new title, What's It Gonna Be, Santa? This version has 20 songs at 75 minutes. Quite a transformation and collection!

For the Spector fans, how about Wizzard's "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday"?

A very underrated Christmas song....in the States at least. So, it's now Dec 27. I woke up and my wife had Christmas music playing in the bedroom. As much as I've immersed myself in Christmas culture this year, as I heard those festive songs, I felt like I was atop Mt. Krumpet. I don't know if I burned myself out, or if the passing of the big day caused a switch to flip, but unlike most years, I'm 100% ready to stick this stuff on the shelf until next year.

So much for the Christmas spirit! Anyway, we in NL have Sinterklaas to contend with first: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinterklaas Quick summary of the article. A bar in Dallas put a note on their jukebox saying All I Want For Christmas is You by Mariah Carey will be skipped if played before Dec 1, and the song will be limited to one play per day in December. Mariah Carey took to Twitter to respond "Is this the war on Christmas I've heard about?"

Anyway, we in NL have Sinterklaas to contend with first: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinterklaas As we are all aware (and have written about in The Lounge and other threads), it seems like Christmas is coming earlier and earlier each year, and I guess that includes Christmas music. When Mike Love wrote, "Christmas comes this time each year...", I don't think he meant September, October, and the first week in November. Nevertheless, Christmas music is already here. I'm hearing it on the radio. Now I'll have to visit the malls!

I'm hearing it on the radio. Now I'll have to visit the malls! We had to go to a local mall the weekend before Halloween weekend to get some clothes for our son. Since it was a rainy afternoon, it was a good way to wear him out. Looking in Macys and Nordstrom, you'd have thought it was late December, not late October by the way the stores were decorated. I love Christmas, but I do hate how early it's forced on us.

Stopped in a local pizza place for lunch on Friday...they were playing Christmas music.
