Yeah - It’s 88 here and humid! Did get the paver patio power washed, so I need to get up early to put the sealer down, before it heats up again. Staining the deck will happen mid week, when it’s cooler outside!
Just waiting on the Chiefs game now. Already watched one division foe win, so I am routing for the Cowboys in their game against the Chargers. I still can’t get used to The Las Vegas Raiders and the LA Chargers. I still think of the Raiders as being from Oakland!

I had barely gotten used to the LA Raiders when they moved back to Oakland. I still often think St. Louis Cardinals. I forget these Cleveland Browns aren't really the Cleveland Browns. And so on and so on.
To say nothing of the Big 8/12 situation down in your part of the country!
I am very, very slow to adjust to these things.

That's a sensitive subject here in Baltimore, especially when those iconic horseshoe helmets come out of the visitors tunnel.

Ok kds - That was a great game. I hope you enjoyed it! Ugh - my heart is hurting! Glad you got to experience it. Let me know what it was like. I want to hear all about your enjoyment. At least it will make me feel better. My Chiefs will come back better. I trust in Mahomes. Glad for you. I give your team props. They went for it and it payed off.

From an entertainment standpoint, last night was hard to beat. There was a ton of energy at the stadium with this being our first full capacity game since January 2020. Plus, you had the matchup of two young MVP caliber QBs, with the Ravens barely coming out on top thanks to a great fourth quarter, and a gutsy call to go for it on 4th and short in our own territory to seal the win. This win reminded me of a game I attended in September 2012. At the time, Joe Flacco and the Ravens struggled to beat Tom Brady and the Patriots, but they had a big 4th quarter comeback to finally beat New England for the first time in the regular season. Then, there was the September 2000 game when Tony Banks lead a 4th quarter comeback to finally beat Jacksonville for the very first time after eight straight losses. Both of those seasons ended with Lombardi Trophies.

Well, our brief summer was indeed brief. 90 yesterday, but while it was 73 when I woke up, we're dropping into the 60s this afternoon and rain is headed in.
So naturally, since my mind turns to food and drink more or less for everything in life, cooler, rainy weather meant "what should I cook?"
The answer: split pea soup with a smoked ham hock in it. (I also add diced carrots and will add a diced potato later.) There is nothing like a slow-simmering soup with a bone in there to infuse it with great flavors. Well, unless you're vegetarian... I'm also thinking of baking some bread or rolls to have with it.

If the long range forecast is any indication, summer is leaving on time in Baltimore. It looks like highs in the low 70s from now until October 4.
As much as I love it hot, I prefer it this way. Since I've said my "goodbye" to summer, I'm ready to move on. And, maybe this speaks of any undiagnosed OCD I might have, but I actually get annoyed when we get unseasonably warm days in October.

My first-world problem of the day:
I use the free version of Spotify, usually the web browser version on my Macbook laptop. And I have to tell you, it's shit. (Spotify, not the laptop.)
Specifically, lately I've noticed it will suddenly just be muted, but not actually muted. What I mean is, I'm listening to Song 1, and all is well. When it goes to Song 2, that song is inaudible. The sound is still on, it isn't muted, it shows it is playing, but there is no sound. At that point, if I stop and start, switch tracks, or anything else, it's still the same silence. I have to reload the page for it to work again.
Another complaint is, if the site has been up a while, performance suffers. Say I leave it open for a couple hours while I'm off doing something else: when I return, if I hit play, nothing happens. Again, I'll have to reload.
Third, about one-third to one-half of the time, when it goes into the ads that pop up every few songs, it instead goes into an endless loading of ads (that never load), again resulting in an indefinite silence unless or until I reload the page.
Pretty glitchy for such a popular app and a standard device. It's not like I'm trying to run it on a Commodore 64 or something. But yes, I am indeed complaining about this free website that allows me to listen to almost anything I want anytime I want because it isn't perfect. That's my first-world problem of the day.

I noticed all three of those issues when I'd listen on a PC. In addition, when I'd listen on my phone, there was a noticeable increase in ads and the shuffle mode didn't shuffle well at all. I finally caved, and went back to Premium, during their summer sale ($10 total for three months), and I decided I'm keeping it even when the promo runs out. I have slightly fewer expenses than when I dropped Premium a couple years ago, so I think I can justify $10 / month now.

Guess I spoke too soon about the fall of summer: after a cool day today and tomorrow, the next week's worth of forecasts are for temps of 79, 81, 82, 86, 79, 77, 75.
Which is to say, summery. Either way is fine with me. I enjoy these days in the mid-60s to low 70s, too. It's a matter of what I want to do, mostly.
But I turned off the AC a couple days ago. I suspect by midweek I'm going to be reconsidering, though it looks like evenings are going to be cool enough that I may get by without turning it on again. (There is something stubborn in me that, once the AC or heat are off, I don't want to turn them back on. I don't know why, since it's not as if I'm heating a house from zero, or cooling it from 100: it's just a matter of a few degrees.)

For the first weekend of fall, we're looking at sunny around 75 tomorrow and sunny around 73 on Sunday, with temps falling into the high 50s at night. That's pretty normal for us.
As much as I love summer, I'm actually finding myself looking forward to some cooler nights on the deck. And, of course, the best part of summer ending, the departure of the bugs.

The weather is perfect, but I’m never staining my deck again. Our deck is multilevel with a 12 foot ceiling, 11 metal spindles per rail span and it’s all rough cedar except for the flooring, that is grey composite. So - lots of taping, ladders, scaffolds and detail work. Lots of moving around drop cloths. I thought my husband might die today, standing on the scaffolding painting the ceiling. I almost fell off ladders a couple of times. I wish I had bought sealer with toner instead of semi transparent. The stain is a cedar color, but I think it covers up most of the beauty of the cedar. Our deck is 11 years old and I didn’t want it to deteriorate, so I went with the online advice. Too late to change our minds - we are 5 gallons in now.
I am sore as hell and still have some work to do tomorrow. Then I have to clean the house because we have company coming late afternoon. I really didn’t want company, but I’ve only seen my grandchild once (husbands son’s child), so we felt we needed to invite them over. I am ready to go back to work to get some rest! As a plus, my husband let me listen to Feel Flows for 5 hours today. Still discovering it’s wonderfulness. He quit before me, so then I listened to Friends and 20/20. We went through two Bluetooth speakers today. Got to charge them up for tomorrow, but will probably be listening to Country.

Oh wow - now it’s raining! All I know is - if I let any stain sit on any surface for more than 5 minutes, it was hard as hell to get it off. So hopefully we are good. It’s been two hours since we have put anything down. Can says two hours. 🤞

Good for you, carllove. I hate home improvement projects! Between not having the slightest gifts for presentation, not much interest, and no skills to speak of for these jobs, I'm usually either one to let things go too long, or too quick to hire somebody else to do what I could've/should've done myself. (My late grandpa would pull out his hair--if he had any--if he knew the things I didn't do myself!)
Once you're all finished, I'm sure you're going to feel great about it. (Though apparently sore!)
