Frustrating start to the day. First the power went out on at least the whole block: odd, as there wouldn’t have been a major strain from air conditioning or anything(moderate temps this morning) and there’s no construction for a few blocks. Within an hour it returned...but now I have no internet. The modem/router seem to be working, but the laptop and phone both can’t find them. So I’m going to have to call customer service, which is only slightly worse than a root canal! (Phone can’t do s my WiFi but has roaming signal, hence this post.) You forget how much depends on electricity and internet until they’re gone! I am told by the extremely unhelpful customer service at my internet provider that they'll try to get someone out to check on it Wednesday. I've been using my phone as a hotspot all day, after learning that the library's wifi signal is too weak to support my virtual session with my work. This is really annoying.

Not to make it worse ... but August is almost 1/3 over!

Look forward to September. Dislike summer. Ha! I must admit I prefer Autumn as well. Summer just sort of sits there being hot, while Autumn (like Spring) is more of a progression.

Cool thanks. Let's discuss fall - face it, it's better than summer. Full stop. But reasons can be different, human to human. What's the best thing about fall to exclusively you, jk?

The best thing about Fall/Autumn? As I said, it's the fact that it's changing -- moving away from the heat of Summer but not yet arrived at the cold of Winter. Same with Spring. Both Autumn and Spring are full of promise. I hope that makes sense.

Actually it doesn't. But thanks for the answer. You answered like poetry. Which I don't appreciate frankly. It's dull (poetry, that is, not answer). Anyhoo, which fall song do you like? I.e. song that captures fall the best? Good question, eh?

I've been craving Greek flavors, but I'm not interested in going to restaurants with the whole reservations-and-masks requirements, and there are no good takeout/delivery places close enough to get the food while it's really still warm and fresh. So I did some cooking last night and will again today along Greek-flavor lines.
Dinner last night was garlicky white beans with savory, parsley and kale; roasted potatoes with za'atar; and shrimp, onion, and yellow summer squash sauteed with a splash of white wine and parsley, mint, thyme, and lemon and toped with feta. I also made tzatziki.
Today I'm going to make some lamb-pork meatballs (stuffed with parsley and mint) and have that with leftovers of the beans, squash, and pitas.
Not necessarily authentic. Not quite expert level by any means. But I thought it turned out pretty well and my craving should be satisfied after today.

Thanks jk. Yeah I got cool humor aka bitey. Thanks to laugh. & thanks to ask - songs that capture fall/autumn the best musically by zinczag are these 2 beauties: 2nd song written by famous songwriter girl Lynsey De Paul. 1st song Brady Bunch-related (didn't rmbr in which way but did read this info in my favorite Iron Leg blog by highly articulate well-spoken Larry Grogan). Everybody else, what's yours? Let's start music fall discussion. B.E., Sheriff John Stone, bellbottoms, The Cincinnati Kid, kds

Yes, apparently the Peppermint Trolley Company arranged and performed the theme tune to The Brady Bunch (their voices were later replaced by others but the instrumental track was retained). I had to look this up, of course. I was initiated into sunshine pop by "leni" but I'm afraid I didn't keep it up. This track is gorgeous. I only know Lynsey De Paul from the extremely catchy "Sugar Me" -- I'm not familiar with her other compositions. Co-author Barry Blue was also big in the early to mid '70s (e.g., with "Dancing On A Saturday Night"). Here's another autumn-related though not particularly optimistic track I love: "King Harvest (Has Surely Come)" by The Band:

I love fall, but I'm not ready to think about it yet. I don't want this summer to end. Spent a lot of time in the backyard over the weekend, weeding and doing other yard related things, like putting up some pretty patio lights and such. I've used the backyard a lot this summer, more than any other summer, and it's become kind of an outdoor living room for me. Up until now the basic table, umbrella and chairs setup was always sufficient for my needs, but since I've been out there so much, the decorator in me wants to make it as comfy and pleasing to my eyes as possible. Hence the lights, and a few other odds and ends to pretty it up. I'm a bit annoyed with myself that the motivation kicked in so late in the summer, but to in my defense, with Covid, I didn't feel ready to go shopping for patio stuff until now. Oh well, better late than never!

KDS, I saw this and thought of you and your family. I hope you were far from it and are all safe. What a terrifying occurrence.
