When I was growing up, we used to get a real tree, but usually not until around Dec 15. I'm sure there are probably additives you can put in the water to keep them fresh longer these days. I’m not rejecting the onslaught of Christmas as it comes on in the stores and other public places, but I have a rule about decorating my house – never before December 1. I can't imagine having the decorations up before that. Because it's too early, but also because why give my cats that much opportunity to destroy everything? Whatever the Christmas Decoration Destroyers get up to after December 1, well... so be it.

Whatever the Christmas Decoration Destroyers get up to after December 1, well... so be it. My perspective has changed over the years. I used to be very strictly "no Christmas stuff before Thanksgiving." But, after having a kid, I've softened on that. The Christmas season goes by so fast now, I'm OK with trying to milk an extra week or so out of it. We have our tree up, but it's not decorated yet, and we've already started to watch the Christmas baking show my wife likes. And we're seeing the Trans Siberian Orchestra tomorrow night.

I've also changed my perspective over the years. The main reason is because of society's opposite...reaction...to post-Christmas. So much build up, so much time, so much preparation, and then as soon as the clock strikes December 26 - everybody seems to forget the Christmas spirit and is ready to move on IMMEDIATELY! The music stops, the stores go into spring/summer mode, people will take their decorations down as soon as they can, and "other" things just seem to take over.
It kind of depresses me (although I admit I'm in a small minority, listening to Christmas music 12 months a year ). Hey, I love warm(er) weather and spring and summer as much as anyone, but let's wait a little bit longer. January AND February still have a lot to offer in regard to the holiday spirit. Let's just slow down sit back and relax, and enjoy it.

I’d say that applies to us for life in general, not just the winter holiday spirit. The focus is so often on what’s next, so rarely on what’s now.

The Christmas stuff is off the TV at midnight on the 26th. The stores are quickly working to move the Christmas stuff to get ready for the next money maker. But, the decorations are still up (we've always kept them up until New Years). I think this year, we might try to make that time a little more festive.

While reading/typing I just glanced out the window, only to be met with the sight of what looks like a blizzard! The trees are already covered with snow and there's about an inch on the ground. I didn't know they were calling for this. I was going to rake leaves this afternoon. Oh well, no problem. That just means more Christmas music and more NFL.
EDIT: Now three inches!

And yet Minneapolis is looking at (allegedly) 40 degree weather, maybe even a little sunshine, without a flake on the ground or in the air. I'm going to enjoy it, maybe take a nice walk around one of those 10,000 lakes (a couple of which are within walking distance, as I suppose is inevitable when there are 10,000 of them), because next weekend I understand we've got snow forecast for Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

It's almost the Christmas season. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm looking forward to seeing which iconic Christmas song, TV special, or movie is "problematic" in today's society.

A forecast of 11-14” snow is the most recent I’ve heard. Thanksgiving is supposed to be clear, then a weekend full of more snow. I’m planning to be generous with inventive profanities.
As for “problematic” Xmas specials, I’m guessing all of them! Then again I’m in the place where a couple years ago the woke “Baby it’s cold outside” debuted.

The politically correct people are still complaining about the "inappropriate" lyrics to the song, "Baby, It's Cold Outside". So, this year, John Legend recorded an updated 2019 version with Kelly Clarkson. Ugh.

I'm not sure which part of this I don't like the most. An update of a classic with unnecessary PC lyrics, or another Christmas song with Kelly Clarkson.

It was a balmy 10 C today! (google tells me this is 50 F). Nice enough to take a walk at lunch. All the snow is gone. All of a sudden I find myself hoping for a dusting by the weekend to put me in a festive enough mood to put up the tree and the lights on the house.
Are there a lot of Christmas movies and tv specials getting flagged as problematic? The only one I can think of is Love, Actually. Every year, the internet tries to ruin it for me, but they've yet to succeed. I know it's not a good movie. It has always been awful, and it's aged terribly on top of that. But I watch it every year and will continue to do so probably just to be defiant but also because I really love the scene with the little girl's performance of All I Want For Christmas Is You. I think that's my favourite version of that song.

In some circles EVERYTHING is being called problematic!

In some circles EVERYTHING is being called problematic! True enough, my twitter feed certainly supports this statement.

That’s why I tend to stick to real life, present company excluded. I find people more rational and accepting of different opinions in person than online.
