Yeah, that's a whole other discussion, and I think there's even a thread on it already.
Back to Coda, it would be interesting to take those three ITTOD outtakes and do some mixing and matching to make an ultimate ITTOD playlist.

I had been thinking the same thing. There were of course more restraints when they were dealing with vinyl's time constraints. But there's no reason it couldn't be done now. I may well do that, or even another couple of revised Zeppelin albums. There are alternatives available for several dating back to III, anyway.

Dang, I never got around to commenting on the last few albums. In the meantime, ramble on with Rick Beato...

I don't believe anybody shared this story from the past week here on the board, but it's an interesting one. Jimmy Page got back his prized "Black Beauty," a 1960 Les Paul Custom, that he apparently lost to theft 45 years ago at the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport.

I love stories like that. 45 years...amazing. And, I didn't know that Jimmy played on Petula Clark's "Downtown". I'll never hear that song the same way again.

One thing that jumped out at me about this story: Page's guitar had three humbucker pickups. (Most Les Pauls have two.) I thought Ace Frehley was the first guitarist to have a Les Paul model three.
Another fun fact about it: my mom texted me a few days ago to ask if I'd read the story about Black Beauty. Her being a literary type, I figured she meant some story about the book, which I've never read. Then it occurred to me she was relating to me, as a guitar guy, about the Page story. The lesson is, if you try to relate to someone on their terms, they'll probably just misunderstand you anyway based on their understanding of YOUR terms!

Your MOM texted you about that? I'm very impressed. Let's get her on the forum!

I had this interview with studio guitarist extraordinaire Waddy Wachtel playing in the background and near the end, my ears perked up as he told an interesting little anecdote about the intro to Zep's "Rock and Roll." While learning it to play it for a show, he first found out that it begins on a different beat than he thought.
But then he learns something even funnier: it is Bonzo playing the intro to "Johnny B. Goode" on drums. Or at least that's what some other musician said he'd heard John Paul Jones say. (The relevant section of the interview is teed up, shortly after the 38 minute mark.)

The upcoming deluxe reissue of the Stones' Goats Head Soup will include this Jimmy Page collaboration from 1974, "Scarlet."

Jimmy Page at the premiere of a new Led Zeppelin documentary:
Sounds fantastic! With a new Beatles doc, a new Zep doc, a new Velvet Underground doc, and presumably in the near future a new Beach Boys doc, things are looking good on that front for the coming year or so.

One of those albums that for some reason--whether because I've aged, or the times have changed, or both, or neither--used to be considered among the best few albums of all time but doesn't seem to come up anymore.
But mark me down as a believer. It might not be the best album of all time, but it's not easy to pick an album better than this one.
