This is one of the earliest photos I've seen of David Marks and Al Jardine in the band together - May 24, 1963:

Is Dennis's hair slicked down or just THAT short!
Also gotta love those thin, early 60s ties.

Like the way L.A. (Light Album) was titled, I always though Pacific Ocean Blue could've been titled Thoughts Of You (Karen Lamm-Wilson Album). I'm obviously saying that tongue-in-cheek, but I think her influence on Dennis Wilson's music - and life - was immeasurable. There have been some stories reported about their relationship, but I always thought more in-depth documentation would be fascinating. I realize it would border on sensationalism and tragedy, but so are most Beach Boys-related stories.

This is true. Heaven knows the whole stories on Murry Wilson, Brian's "in bed" period, and Landy have been done to death.

This photo was posted on The Lemon Twigs instagram page. Talk about big fans of Brian!

Their 2018 album Go To School definitely showed them to be big fans of smart chamber pop and classic rock along those lines, though probably more Todd Rundgren (who appeared on the album) and Harry Nilsson and Van Dyke Parks than Brian. But I'd have been shocked if they didn't love him. Here is the title track. About :45 seconds in it is very Brianish for a moment as the piano goes to the straight pounding of the chords on the beat and the melody changes.

I've seen them described as similar to Sparks ... but the comparison was lost on me, as I don't know that I've ever heard Sparks.

Promoting Summer In Paradise - and Al is there! Strange things happen. Hey, where's Stamos?

You can read "Sigh....it's a livin" on Al's face in that picture.

You can read "Sigh....it's a livin" on Al's face in that picture. There is so little written about Summer In Paradise, except by fans who hammer it. But, other than Mike who probably loved it, I wonder what the other guys truly thought about it. If they...hated it...you wonder how a professional musician/artist COULDN'T step up to the plate and say, "Hey, we can do better than this...". What ever happened to pride?

What happened to pride? Ask some huge percentage of people who “made it”! How many pro athletes stopped producing after signing a big contract? (Many.) The record is similar for musicians or other artists and presumably less public figures. After a while you get (at least metaphorically and in Brian’s case literally) fat and lazy.
It IS a shame. I’m not arguing that. But it’s no surprise after a couple decades of hits, celebrity, and fortune.

I'm pretty sure Al wasn't a fan since he almost left the band at the time. Bruce was probably just towing the line. We'll sadly never know what Carl thinks. But, I think the fact that it's never gotten a digital release and the album image was the lone album left off the C50 tour program (they even made room for S&S Vol 1) speaks volumes. And, to be honest, there were plenty of times somebody from The Beach Boys could've said "Hey, we can do better than this...." dating back to pretty much the beginning.

Definitely: consider Dennis talking about 15BO.

Definitely: consider Dennis talking about 15BO. Or even before that. Putting talk / joke tracks on three albums. Smiley Smile (I know it's become a cult favorite but it's a total WTF album). It's not as if they had a flawless catalog and SIP ruined it.
