I'm interested to hear the Glyn Johns mix of the album in pristine sound quality for historical purposes, but (from what I've heard of it) I've always thought it sounded BAD. This isn't changing my mind. It's funny because he's a pretty big name, highly respected, but this was my introduction to him and...well...it didn't leave a good impression. It's pretty remarkable how much superior sounding the proper album is considering they were the same sessions. I don't know, though, I'm no expert in this area (not being into bootlegs, generally). I could be wrong. We'll see!

Rick Rubin and Malcolm Gladwell's "Broken Records" podcast has a new episode with a 50-minute interview with Ringo Starr.
EDIT - About 43 minutes or so in, they discuss the early days (and success) of Ringo's solo career: how he came to do the standards and country albums. Interesting, actually.

Another new trailer for the upcoming Peter Jackson Beatles Get Back doc.
About halfway through, Paul says "it's going to look silly in 50 years, the Beatles broke up because Yoko sat on an amp."

Wow, that looks really good. Another interesting Beatles note is Paul McCartney is interested in finishing the third "new" Beatles song that was considered for inclusion in the Anthology project. ultimateclassicrock.com/paul-mccartney-unfinished-beatles-now-and-then/I'm pretty sure I've said this before, but it's crazy that Anthology will have premiered 26 years ago next month. When it premiered, The Beatles had only been broken up for 25 years.

I hope he does it. And the article is right that technology is so much further along now than it was in the mid-90s, they could do a better job of getting usable audio from old subpar demos. I mean, they actually did a good job working with what they had back then. But things are so much more advanced now.

I'd be interested to hear it too. I wonder, if it happened, would it be a stand alone release, or included in some sort of Beatles compilation, or archival release.

Do they? I mean, that wasn't already a part of all the various deluxe reissues they've done, is there still more "new" stuff to release?
From my perspective, as with Beach Boys and Dylan reissues, it's really almost only completed or near-completed unreleased songs I care about, personally. So while the idea of Paul finishing up John demos appeals to me*, if there were an Anthology 4 focused on alternate, new mixes or whatnot, I don't think I'd bother.
*What I would truly, truly love would be for Paul to finish as many John and George demos as could possibly be finished, using as much of their voices and instrumental parts as is feasible. Oh I would love that.

Here is the new mix of "Let It Be," released on YouTube yesterday. By the way, I kind of like the Beatles approach (and some others do it too) of turning off comments: here's the music, do with it as you will, but none of the sniping, blind praise, insults, bizarre evangelism, trolling, etc., that usually ends up creeping anywhere it's given an inch.
I'd say this is the norm these days. So many of the videos I link employ the "Comments are turned off" feature. Very sensible too.

Probably not a ton of "new" stuff, but they could include the complete Decca audition (I believe three tracks appeared on Anthology 1), various live stuff, alternate takes, etc. If my father's bootleg collection is any evidence, there's stuff out there. I'd probably feel obligated to buy it since I own the first three Anthology sets.

Listening to this 1987 interview with George Martin. Fascinating to me, in that on one hand it's very much nostalgic and detailing what they did "back then," but at the same time, the implied (and occasionally explicitly discussed) present is now almost 35 years ago. So every technological detail, for example, is now long-since outdated.
And frankly some cultural ones are similarly outdated. Beyond that, there is also just something to hearing stories told at different times. What someone says in 1970 isn't always the same as he says in 1980, or 1990, and so on.
It makes for a really fascinating listen.

OK, this really gets interesting after 40 minutes, when as they discuss technologies, Martin gives his thoughts on CDs, DATs and ADATs, and the future... (which involves home computers being common "with 30 megabytes" each, and into that computer he would be fed lots of things, including sounds).

Pretty interesting insight!
(Also, this is where the John quote about TLGIOK comes from.)

This channel has some fun videos. I decided to give this a go (by hand) prior to watching his video - 19 minutes to list all of the Beatles album tracks. I didn't bother with Side 2 of Yellow Submarine, and I initially attempted to write out the complete title of each track but after 8 minutes I realized I'd run out of time so I started abbreviating. Due to that limitation, I started jumping around during the mid-period albums instead of being methodical and listing every song from each album before moving on. Anyway, as a result I ended up getting 71/85 before switching to abbreviations and getting 93/101 for a total of 164/186 before running out of time. I'm confident I would have gotten them all if I had a few more minutes or if I had abbreviated from the start. Maybe I'll try the proper quiz (as in the video) in a week or two and nail it! As always, now we need a Beach Boys version!
