One must never apologize for bumping a Queen thread, done with the discography or not.
It is really amazing how long they lasted with the same lineup. Is there another band that comes to mind that managed the same thing?
The only other one I can think of is ZZ Top. But, just about every other band I could think of that lasted more than a decade, had at least two lineups. Even Rush had John Rutsey on drums on their debut.

They only made it a little more than a decade, but Led Zeppelin I suppose at least had only the one lineup.

Great catalogs aside, I think that's one of the reasons bands like The Beatles, Zeppelin, and Queen are so revered.
And, another testament to the ever changing landscape of classic bands, when I got into Queen, a just under 20 year run seemed like a long time. Now, 50th anniversary tours are becoming quite common.

We all know (from the Mercury tribute show) that Extreme were huge Queen fans. But apparently Queen--and some semi-obscure Queen at that!--were behind the genesis of Extreme. (Nice "Stepbrothers" reference, too!)

Cool to see a Queen topic here. It reminds me of Silken, who was a big Queen fan (where she?). This excerpt from The Best of Youth gave me my introduction to what would become my all-time favourite Queen track. (Real chills-down-the-spine stuff when Freddie takes over from Brian for the second verse.) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Best_of_Youth

A Kind of Magic, the album with "Who Wants To Live Forever" as its centrepiece, is jam-packed with other goodies, such as the gorgeous "Pain Is So Close To Pleasure", a toe-tapper that would have done The Elgins or Jackie Wilson proud: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Kind_of_Magic

As a great, great, great man once said of this album: I love A Kind of Magic, one of the first two or three Queen albums I ever owned and arguably their best synthesis of rock and pop styles since The Game (along with Innuendo). ...
Mercury's vocals are a powerhouse throughout the album. They're not the vocals of the mid-70s, no longer so pure, but instead coarsened by however-many years of smoking and abuses. But it's still strong and expressive across a wider range than most humans. (Don't believe me? You sing "One Year of Love.")

I think it's one of Queen's underrated gems, not just on A Kind of Magic, but in general.

Queen's "March of the Black Queen" popped up on shuffle and I was blown away for the 5,000th time by it, including especially the gorgeous piano-and-falsetto based part that begins at around 3:00 (and is queued up below). You know what gets me the most? For some reason, the fact that the piano chords are played on beat one and then on the "and" of three in several spots, keeping the listener just slightly off kilter rhythmically.
Such a fabulous song.

I might be imagining this, but I feel like in recent years, more and more people are realizing that Queen II is in fact a masterpiece.

I don't go quite that far, but it's not far off from being one, either. This song is a masterpiece, though (as are a few others from the album).

As long as we live in a free, and therefore diverse, society--and god forbid we ever don't live in such a society!--"preachy" isn't a great way to go, in my opinion. You're free to go vegan, you're free to eat nothing but meat, and everywhere in between, but nobody likes being condescended to about their habits.
(Veganism, by the way, doesn't have a clear advantage, health-wise. Contrary to messaging. Neither is a diet heavy on meat. Go figure, life is complicated.)

And this is from an unlikely source. I noted while going through the Queen catalog that there were never really a preachy band. They had a handful of political songs, but I never felt like I was being preached at or talked down to. In this day and age, with things being so divisive, I think people are looking for an escape from that. And even though this is less political and more about dietary choices, I don't see this as a good move for Brian or the live Queen brand.

Bump Queen will be streaming the 1992 Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert for 48 hours this weekend ultimateclassicrock.com/queen-freddie-mercury-tribute-concert/I'm assuming this is the version that was released a few years ago on BluRay, and will not include Spinal Tap, U2's satellite performance, or Robert Plant's rather shaky attempt at Innuendo with the surviving members of Queen.
