I don't know if we need a Queen thread. But hey, do we really need ANY thread?
Thought I'd start this because a) we do seem to chat Queen pretty often and b) there was this column in today's local paper (for no apparent reason, by the way) about their resurgence. While reading it, it struck me that this is at least their second major popularity bump in the U.S. after Freddie's death, with Wayne's World being the first.

And both movies that helped with their US resurgence featured Mike Myers.
It just goes to show that great music rises to the top eventually. Even had Mike Myers not insisted Bo Rhap was used in Wayne's World, I'm sure one way or another, a new generation would've discovered their great music. And, for as much as the biopic was flawed, anything that shines a light on Queen's music for a new generation is a positive.
And, I know they get a lot of flack from diehard Queen fans, but also kudos to Brian and Roger for taking that great music on the road for people (like me) that never got to experience it the first time around.

Opinions on the Queen + Adam Lambert tour? The setlist looks pretty solid, especially unearthing the debut album gem Doin' Alright, which I'm pretty sure hasn't been played since 1973. I've seen some video clips, and I think Lambert does a pretty good job. I might've gone to this past Tuesday's show in DC had it not been the same night as the Maiden show in Philly.

Apparently at the Philly show, Queen + Adam Lambert had the Eagles cheerleaders onstage for "Fat Bottomed Girls." Queue the outrage.

If I were a cheerleader, I don't know that I'd want to be on stage for Fat Bottomed Girls.

On this date in 1986, Queen performed at Knebworth to close out their Magic Tour. It would be the last time that Freddie, Brian, John, and Roger would ever play live.

I'm curious. With your recent post about your increasing frustration with attending live shows, if you would've known about this one, would've you gone?

Steve Vai, as part of this monster of an interview, discusses Queen and Brian May quite a bit in response to a question. He talks about them (plus Zep) being his favorite formative-years band, about how Brian gets his tone, about what a good guy he is, about the song "Good Company," and more. The answer is almost ten minutes long.
It should be queued up, but if not, start at just a hair before an hour and thirty minutes.

Wow, that's quite a compliment Steve paid to Brian May. I didn't know they played together so much.
