This sounds exciting. John Wesley Harding and Nashville Skyline are albums I like a lot (especially the latter).

I recently discovered this version of "Tomorrow Is A Long Time". As far as I can tell, it's still unreleased. Tell me, does the guitar riff starting at 0:13 remind anyone else of a guitar riff featured in a Lennon solo song? George Harrison was in both of their circles at the time. Could there be a connection?

George did sit in with Dylan in May 1970 and ran through several songs, but I don't know if this was one of them.

I finally got around to watching Martin Scorsese's Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story. I enjoyed the concert and tour footage, but next time I'll probably skip over most of the rest (Allen Ginsberg, Patti Smith, fictionalized characters and storylines, etc). Outside of Bob, I probably most enjoyed seeing and learning a bit more about the violinist, Scarlet Rivera. Her playing on Desire is indispensable. In fact, I can't think of any other musician whose work was as integral to a Dylan album.
Btw, there were a few comments about Dylan keeping to himself and not even talking to some of his bandmates. If true, I would have liked to explore that just a little bit more.

That reminds me, I never finished that doc! I was eagerly anticipating, watched maybe half, and lost interest. Surprising, since I liked that music and loved the No Direction Home doc by Scorsese.

I didn't finish it in one sitting either.

Bob Dylan was in Mankato, Minnesota--a college town of about 40,000 people about 90 minutes south of Minneapolis--last night. And this review is that rarest of birds, a Dylan review praising his voice.

And this review is that rarest of birds, a Dylan review praising his voice.I knew rhythm guitarist Stu Kimball left the band a while back, now replaced by Bob Britt. But I was surprised to see drummer George Recile (who was with Dylan for almost 20 years) replaced by Matt Chamberlain - who toured with Pearl Jam!
I went through a period where I saw Dylan every year for about five or six years, then I faded away. It wasn't so much his vocals or performance, it was the setlist. This new setlist seems a little improved, as does Bob's voice apparently.

First new song from Dylan in 8 years (though apparently not new, but a previously finished, unreleased song).

OK, I've actually listened to the damn thing. And Dylan's longest-ever recorded song sounds like two longest songs' worth of Dylan saying everything he can remember from his goddamn life. Was he staring at his book shelf and record collection and just reading titles?
Jesus Christ, only Bob Dylan can ruin a surprise-drop Bob Dylan song.

Wow, that's quite an opus, probably the longest song I've ever listened to ("In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" might have it beat by a couple seconds). And you thought "Sad Eyed Lady Of The Lowlands" was long! That's "Meant For You" compared to this track.
Dylan's voice sounds especially clear, but the song is a few years' old. I am impressed how well he "sings" this. He doesn't mince words does he. Did Bob ever allude to the Kennedy assassination in any of his songs? Carl Wilson is namechecked at 11:45. Where did THAT come from? I'd like to hear Bob explain this song in depth but I'm not holding my breath. This is another one of those Dylan songs where you wonder how it could NOT be released on one of his albums. But this is the guy who recorded "Blind Willie McTell" and "Red River Shore" - and didn't release them!

But I think this song is a tremendous waste of space.

Bob Dylan's new song, "Murder Most Foul" goes No. 1. Well, kind of:

Probably there is no better demonstration of the irrelevance of polls ... especially that one (Rock Digital Song Sales?). The #1 song sold 10k copies? It has been streamed 1.8 million times? If nobody listened twice--which I could certainly understand, the song being garbage--that means approximately one of every 183 Americans listened to the song.
That's a #1 song?
