KDS a while back mentioned he'd never explored the Kinks' catalog, but was thinking of digging in. Recently I read something about Nils Lofgren having worked with Lou Reed in the late '70s, and my immediate reaction was "I don't know jack about Nils Lofgren!" (I knew he had worked with Bruce Springsteen. That's it.)
So the point is, are there any artists you haven't really gotten into yet, but whom you intend to get around to someday? I'm not talking about this as some kind of thread dedicated to those giants you just don't like and so haven't gotten into, that's a whole other thing. (For me, that's Neil Young: I've heard a couple of albums and more individual songs, and just don't like him. So I don't intend to explore his catalog.)
At the moment, the only two I've got in mind are Lofgren and Levon Helm. I've got the Band's music, and I've got Helm's last two solo studio albums (Dirt Farmer and the really, really good Electric Dirt), but I never did really bother with his solo material otherwise. And yet I don't quite know why, considering how much I like him. I know the critical response was mixed to it, but with Spotify and YouTube minimizing the commitment--no $$$ required--I see no reason not to explore.
(I've got Levon's second album rolling at the moment, with "Ain't No Way To Forget You" playing. It's good evidence for why this is a waste of time. God, this is bad.)

As you mentioned, The Kinks is one I'd like to explore.
I kinda started exploring Springsteen's catalog a few years ago, but didn't really get past his 70s albums. Perhaps I'll resume that some time.

As you mentioned, The Kinks is one I'd like to explore. Specifically with The Kinks, and this is just my opinion, but you might be able to get away with a good comp or two, and some selective Spotify/itunes purchases. The Kapitan is a bigger Kinks' fan than me, but I don't think The Kinks were known for their albums - they had a few very good/great ones. Check out this 2CD comp - 48 songs - on Amazon for $12.97!!!

I actually have a really good 2CD Kinks comp that I haven't listened to in quite some time. I may dust that off before I decide how deep I want to go into their catalog.
