Brief interview with a singer-songwriter named Westerman (I have to admit ignorance on him; never heard of him much less heard him) this morning in Pitchfork. He talks about "God Only Knows" as part of a "song I wish I'd written" series.

Marc Maron had John Cusack on his podcast the other day, and they talk a little about Brian Wilson and Love & Mercy. It isn't very long and I can't say it's particularly insightful (or accurate), but it exists...
Check at the 39 minute mark for that segment. It's only about four or five minutes on that topic.

Here is Vince Gill interviewed on the Musicians Hall of Fame & Museum YouTube channel--a channel with plenty of Wrecking Crew and other session players, as well as name-brand stars, many of whom reference the Beach Boys. Vince talks about some times he felt he wasn't up to the task in front of him. His examples were playing with Sting and singing "Surf's Up" at the BW Tribute.
The latter bit, about "Surf's Up," is cued up here.

Not an article, not an interview. A podcast. The "Why I Hate This Album" podcast guys did an episode devoted to Brian Wilson's finest, "Smart Girls." Keep in mind (as I said earlier when mentioning the Metallica/Reed collab Lulu episode), this is probably 90% comedy show, 10% actual musical analysis.
EDIT: Next week's show is going to be Love You. Gee, I wonder who suggested they do that album?

And per the above, here is a link to that Love You episode. I haven't listened yet, but am about to. (And as always, remember it's comedy first, not real music criticism.)

See you then!Shall I provide his answers now?
"I want to share love."
"I wrote that one with [name] very quickly. We wrote it in 10 minutes!"
"That's a very spiritual song."

The burning question is, will his favorite album be Pet Sounds, Friends, Love You, or a new choice?

I am curious to see how he looks, sounds, you know, his demeanor, has he aged noticeably. It's been quite a few months since we've seen him for an extended period of time. And, we will soon be making a number of posts about the 60th Anniversary , so it'll be good to have something to base our predictions on!

"You know, I went back and re-listened to SIP, and it's really ahead of it's time. There are some classic songs in there."

He seems to have aged dramatically and quickly in recent years, at least in my opinion. And in my experience with relatives, that's pretty common for guys in their later 70s. (Not a given, but common.) I suspect he's going to seem every bit of his age. I thought he did already when he had that little Rolling Stone (?) thing early in the pandemic.

I saw him in concert earlier this year, and he did seem noticeably older than when I'd last seen him in late 2016. Although, with all the years of hard living, combined with recent physical issues, that's not too surprising.

Yeah, and also with that short "Happy Birthday" to Nancy Sinatra. His hair is almost completely white now. He seemed to have lost some weight (which is usually a positive with Brian), but it also could've been for medical reasons. We'll see...
