I might need to amend my list.

I'm loving these lists! I'm going to piggyback on kds's list regarding the top bands/artists seen in concert - with a twist. At a family picnic last year, my niece asked me what were the best concerts I ever attended. And, as I was thinking back, it occurred to me - and her - that I saw some really legendary artists through the years. Then the conversation veered to acts that I/she regretted not seeing, or hoped to see in the future. So, I'm going with two lists. The first list is NOT my most favorite concerts, but who I think overall, to the general listening public, would be considered the post popular or "greatest" artists I was privileged to see. Then the second list is my "biggest regrets" list, or artists/bands who I didn't see, never will see, OR hope to see in the future.
The 10 "Greatest" artists/bands I have seen in concert:
01 Frank Sinatra 02 Bob Dylan 03 The Beach Boys 04 Paul McCartney 05 Willie Nelson 06 The Moody Blues 07 Chicago 08 Leon Russell 09 John Denver 10 Robby Krieger
The 10 Biggest Regrets or Biggest Hopes
01 The Doors (any configuration) 02 Sparks 03 The Rolling Stones 04 Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band 05 Perry Como 06 The Kinks 07 Lou Reed 08 Jimi Hendrix 09 Simon & Garfunkel 10 The Highwaymen

10. Belle & Sebastian
9. Van Dyke Parks 8. Neutral Milk Hotel 7. U2 6. Robert Plant & Jimmy Page 5. Stevie Wonder 4. Lou Reed 3. Paul Simon 2. Prince (several times) 1. Brian Wilson (several times) A few unranked legends I regret I’ve never seen and probably never will (but limited to bands active while I was 15 or older and theoretically could have seen) … though for those who are alive, I guess we’ll see! (Fingers crossed on a few.) Van Halen (end of initial Hagar era) Paul McCartney (could still happen but unlikely I’d pay the ticket prices) Bob Dylan (could still happen, but I care a lot less as his voice has deteriorated so much in recent years) Tom Waits (alive, but last came through Minneapolis 21 years ago!) Queen (I was 15 in 1991 … if only! But of course they weren’t touring then anyway.) The Beach Boys (with Wilson and Jardine)

Nah, by the time I was old enough to go to concerts, the KISS I'd have most wanted to see hadn't existed in more than a decade. And by the time they reformed with the original guys, I wasn't interested in seeing KISS live. Not to be judgmental to anyone who feels otherwise, but the idea of seeing that particular band doing a reunion with the full schtick always struck me as a little sad. Metal in general has always felt like a young man's game to me, and costumed, performance metal even more so.
Though in the legends, I probably should have considered the first G3 tour back in the mid-late 90s: Steve Vai, Joe Satriani and Eric Johnson all on one bill. That was three absolute guitar legends.

This was going to be my Top 10 chorus writers, then I made it composers, most of whom are arrangers, and producers. They often have collaborators. You could say it's today's Top 10 people who have most influenced my songwriting.
1. Tony Hatch & Jackie Trent 2. PF Sloan & Steve Barri 3. Gerry Goffin & Carole King 4. Burt Bacharach & Hal David 5. Brian Wilson & Various 6. Ennio Morricone 7. Neal Hefti 8. Scott Joplin o. Thom Bell & Linda Creed 10. Leroy Anderson
Neil Hefti...All of those years of great compositions and arrangements, and one of his most popular songs was..."Batman Theme"!

This was going to be my Top 10 chorus writers Funnily, I was having similar thoughts today. (Top ten singalong refrains, specifically.) Not quite the same, but in the ballpark. I might get around to that yet.

Yes, these are in order from 10-1, one being the greatest. I almost put KIX at #2 actually. No offense to the Boys, but KIX are one of the best live acts on the planet.

Top 10 Autobiographical Songs. As Beach Boys fans, I think we sometimes became a little jaded to autobiographical songs, but there are tons of great ones across the universe....Here's my ten
1. Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond - This epic tribute to Syd Barrett is IMO Floyd's greatest moment. At the very end of Part 2 (or Part 9 depending on which pressing of Wish You Were Here you have), you can hear a couple notes from See Emily Play on the fade out.
2. Deep Purple - Smoke on the Water - In my opinion, Frank Zappa's greatest contribution to music is his playing the Montreux Casino in 1972 when Purple were there to record Machine Head. Some stupid with a flare gum started a fire, and the rest is history.
3. Queen - Was It All Worth It - Freddie Mercury knew his time was coming when Queen released this song to close their 1989 Miracle album. I almost included The Show Must Go On, but I think this track is far more autobiographical.
4. Motley Crue - Kickstart My Heart - Oh......yeah.....great song about how Crue was still kicking a$$ at the time, and when Nikki Sixx has to have somebody kickstart his heart.
5. George Harrison - All Those Years Ago - Even though I prefer When We Was Fab, I had to include this one because it actually included Paul and Ringo as a grand tribute to the recently departed John.
6. Grand Funk Railroad - We're An American Band - On of many great "life on the road" rock songs. Oddly enough, this song probably gave many people the impression that Don Brewer was GRF's lead singer.
7. The Who - Tea and Theatre - Roger and Pete quietly reflect on their past. This has become The Who's set closer in recent years.
8. Ozzy Osbourne - Road to Nowhere - Much like The Beach Boys, Ozzy has referenced himself so much in his later years that it's almost become a parody (the lead single of his last three solo albums are anthems about how he's not retiring). But, this song on Ozzy's last great solo album (which was meant to be his swan song) bests all of them.
9. Brian Wilson - Southern California - A fitting end to Brian's very autobiographical TLOS album.
10. Journey - Faithfully - A different take on life on the road, this one about the rock star staying faithful to his girl back home instead seeking the company of four young chickitas in Omaha.

When I see Brian in June, it will be my first concert in years.
