Yes, I’m guessing for the harder partying rockers over the years, that has been a common, key factor.
But really, Vince also just never was much of a singer. Look, attitude, definitely. Voice? Eh...not so much. I recall one of those (probably VH1) “comeback” shows, I think in the mid 00s, with a Neil episode. Showing him in the studio, it was amazing. He couldn’t sing along with the guide vocal someone had laid down for him. I don’t mean it was out of his range, or that he didn’t have the lyrics down. I mean he couldn’t hear and match the notes. Someone sings an A; Vince can’t mimic it, sings an Ab or a Bb or a G... Obviously the guy got a lot done somehow over his career, and obviously reality shows aren’t reality. But that was an eye opener for me.

But that was an eye opener for me. It's sort of fitting that one of Vince's idols was David Lee Roth. Much like Roth, Neil is not a gifted singer at all. But, also like Roth, he was the perfect voice for that band, which was made painfully obvious with the ill fated John Corabi fronted Crue album.

Yes, I do agree with that. I was a Crue fan and that limited range, almost whine of a voice, sat perfectly in the middle of that band for years (and sold a ton of albums). Of course, as with Roth, diminishing capabilities from a limited starting point are just that much more obvious.

That, and I truly think Nikki and Tommy lost interest in the band.

And mick’s health problems are no joke from what I understand. That band honestly outlived its natural lifespan imo. Like many hard rock and metal bands, I think it was mostly the lack of good new bands in that genre that kept audiences willing to see shows for all these years.
Crue were a good band for the 80s, but they weren’t a great band. They had some great material in them, and they got it out to the world.

True about Mick, but apparently he was the one who was willing to carry on. They did manage to put out another really solid album in 2008 with their Saints of Los Angeles album. That was after several albums where they tried to go grunge and even industrial style rock. I do agree that Crue were more of their time than timeless. But, for about a decade there, they put out a lot of great music.

I can't explain why, but I just listened to a few songs off of the 1989 Pretty Boy Floyd album Leather Boyz With Electric Toyz. As was the case in 1989, it still struck me as a total rip-off of better bands like Motley Crue and Poison ... and yet undeniably catchy in spots. Dumb, but catchy. Maybe a little like herpes. Which I assume they all got in the 80s.
Surprisingly though, I also checked allmusic and found out they still exist! Holy crap, I didn't expect that. At least some original members, too. They even did a tribute to KISS, a full covers album. (Sounds awful upon brief sampling.)
Do you have any bands or albums like that, things that weren't ever among your favorites yet that after years out of mind, popped into your head?

Cry of Love. They had a couple Bad Company esque songs on the radio - Peace Pipe and Bad Thing - on the radio around 1993, then when alternative hit big, poof gone. I didn't think about them for years, but maybe six years ago, I found a copy of their album Brother, and it's a solid rock album.

Well, that's good news! I'm curious what a 2019 studio version of Blue Oyster Cult sounds like. Buck can probably still outplay the competition.

I last saw BOC in 2011, and Buck put on an incredible display, in particular the extended version of Then Came the Last Days of May. I have a copy of their last album, Curse of the Hidden Mirror. I'll have to give it another listen, it's probably been about 16 years since I've played it. From what I recall, it had a couple good songs.

His previous Christmas album is pretty decent. Yeah, in reading the article, I was surprised that he already had a prior Christmas album. That one really went under the radar with me.

I don't know why, but it's always funny to me that so many metal bands and artists do Christmas albums. I don't know why--metalheads celebrate Christmas too!--I guess it's just stereotyping.
