Now, here's a show I'm considering. Sebastian Bach doing Slave to the Grind in full. I know Skid Row got lumped into the "hair metal" scene thanks to I Remember You, but SOTG is a full on heavy metal album, and it the first metal album to debut at #1 (in 1991, narrowly beating out Metallica's Black Album). ultimateclassicrock.com/sebastian-bach-slave-to-the-grind-tour-2021/I've seen Bach a couple times, and he's got a really good bad, and still sings very well. Far better than his replacement in Skid Row. Speaking of which, I often wonder how a Skid Row reunion would go. Personally, I don't think they're "relevant" enough in 2021 to be able to fill big venues. Maybe the size venues that Mike and Brian play these days, but that hardly seems incentive enough to put the band back together.

My understanding is that for years now, Dave Sabo and Rachel Bolan have been well aware of and openly acknowledged that if they brought back Bach, they would have more financial success. And Bach has repeatedly, publicly said he'd love to do it. However, the band isn't interested, seemingly on a personal level.
But I think you're right that it's almost irrelevant: they could do a decent business as a headliner of mid-sized venues but would have to be part of a package tour to do arenas. That might factor into Sabo/Bolan's decision making, too: sacrifice peace of mind and happiness for what, exactly? Superstardom is one thing, but being third on a "best of the 80s" stadium tour is quite another.

I know Bach hasn't been particularly kind to his former bandmates, nor his replacement, in interviews over the years.

I almost started a thread for them, but idk if that would have legs. So I'll pose the question on my mind here instead.
Do you think the new song from GnR indicates real activity from them as a band going forward, or is it just a one-off to spur chatter as they head back out on the road?
Seems to me it could go either way. On one hand, it's just common sense that after a few years of touring oldies, a band has a real decision to make as to what it's going to be: a legacy act or an active band. Releasing something new hints at the latter, especially with GnR not being THAT old. I mean, they're old by historical rock and roll standards, but they're not old considering how many of the bands they loved as kids are also still touring in some configuration. They must all be in their 50s, not 70s.
But also, the new single is pulled from material well over a decade old. Was that just for convenience's sake, or is it a sleight of hand to give the impression they're still creating (but aren't)? Like how in some ways TWGMTR was a sleight of hand, using a lot of old material just dressed up for new release to promote a tour.
Thoughts?

I think it's a one off, at least for now. Apparently, the song dates back to 2001, under the title Silkworms, and was performed by that version of GNR. So, it's probably not likely it's the product of Axl, Slash, and Duff putting together a legit brand new GNR track. Plus, Slash is apparently planning a new album with his band The Conspirators with Myles Kennedy. Perhaps, this one off will lead more new GNR, but I think Axl, Duff, and Slash know that they can't keep selling tickets with the same setlist year after year. The venues are already noticeably smaller than when this whole started in 2016. ultimateclassicrock.com/guns-n-roses-absurd-song/EDIT - I just saw you mentioned the origins of the song in the New Music of 2021 thread.

I wasn't sure if I should've posting this in the COVID thread, but here it is. ultimateclassicrock.com/bruce-dickinson-covid/And, this is the kind of headline that's dividing people - "Bruce Dickinson gets COVID despite being vaccinated." Well........NOBODY EVER FUCKING SAID THAT THE VACCINE WILL 100% PREVENT YOU FROM GETTING IT!!! Yet, the anti vax crowd will see a headline like this and share it, saying "sEe, ThE jAb DoEsN't WoRk."

I think this sums later Maiden almost perfectly for me
"While plenty of their peers eventually returned to the sounds that made them famous—Metallica on Hardwired…to Self-Destruct, Black Sabbath on 13, Judas Priest on Firepower—the British metal titans have walked their own road, to the frustration of casual fans who just want to relive the high-octane gallop of “Run to the Hills” and “The Trooper.” "
While I did like those mentioned albums from Metallica, Sabbath, and Priest, I think they each have a bit of a "band in cruise control" feel. But, I've never once gotten that feeling, listening to a Maiden album. It's another reason they're my favorite active band. Even if I feel like some of their Book of Souls material really could've used a nip and tuck.
I'm listening now. Only two tracks in. The title track is another one that harkens back to that Book of Souls issue. It's over eight minutes, and really doesn't need to be. I liked it, but it's kind of like being in a crowded roundabout.

The review includes mention of how in 1989, a 41-year-old Ozzy was forced into rehab after attacking his wife/manager Sharon during a blackout. What jumped out at me? "He was only 41!?" He always seemed 100 to me.

Yeah, Ozzy's one of those guys who, to me, never seemed like they were young. I'd say the same about Willie Nelson. It's probably a good thing for Ozzy that he wasn't at his most notorious during the internet era. I mean, he legitimately almost murdered his wife. Luckily, Ozzy and Sharon had the chance to deal with it pretty privately, and have obviously moved on from it. I don't think they would've been able to do so had such an incident occurred in the last 20 years.

Another "new" Guns n Roses song has been released. "New Skool" is apparently another one with its origins in the Chinese Democracy era. I'm assuming Slash and Duff have added themselves to it (and the previous release). Sounds like Slash to me, anyway. I like this one more than "Absurd."
One wonders whether an album is in the works.

It's definitely an improvement over Absurd. Not too bad overall.

Think there's a new album in the works? Or are they just throwing out odds and ends to try to keep people from forgetting they exist while they're on the road?

I'm not sure, it's hard to get a read on those guys. I'd like to think so. I know they've hinted at new music, but I don't recall hearing anything about an album. I think it's partially just to shake up the existing setlists. A friend of mine attended their show in Baltimore last night, and posted a clip of them doing the Velvet Revolver song Slither, that sounded really good.

I know that "Slither" was one of the new additions they had in their set list here, too. That, "You're Crazy" and another cover..."Wichita Lineman," maybe.
Honestly I wouldn't hold out much hope that they'll have a new album, and especially not a new good album. (It's not really promising that these singles are both Chinese Democracy-era songs.) But ... wouldn't it be nice if there were a new, great GnR album to kickstart rock and roll?
