Yeah, it's very much a fan favorite, but it's pretty far down on my list. I also didn't really take BB remakes or live albums into account with my list, so that leaves out IJWMFTT, Live at the Roxy, Pet Sounds Live, BWPS, and Brian and Friends. Taking out OCA, there aren't a ton of true BW solo albums to chose from. That's why I added the live albums, re-recordings, and even Orange Crate Art. True, OCA not a real BW solo album in the purist sense, but I felt he made enough contributions to the album to include it in this thread. And, he is credited on the album (cover) as Orange Crate Art by Brian Wilson AND Van Dyke Parks, with Brian's name first. I know, that's bullshit. I think your assessment of OCA is why I ultimate decided to leave it alone on my list of least favorite BW albums. And, I think, if you actually happen to find it in a record store, it'll probably be in the Brian Wilson bin.

I’d be interested in the RnR album if it were all (or overwhelmingly) originals. Covers, far less interesting to me. But an album with originals along the lines of Run James Run, Some Sweet Day, Morning Beat, Saturday Night..., etc? I’d be interested. The only way I'm interested in a rock & roll album is if it includes The Beach Boys. Brian never was a great rock & roll singer, and especially at this stage in his career. Split the lead vocals three ways - Brian, Mike, and Al - or four ways if you're a Blondie Chaplin fan. Let David Marks show what he can do on lead guitar.
As far as originals or oldies, i have no real preference. I just want the choices - whatever they are - to be good or correct. Poor choices have ruined rock & roll/oldies albums before - see 15 Big Ones.

I'd hate to see another reunion just to have the result being a covers album. I honestly think that TWGMTR is a fine swan song, so unless they come to the table with new original songs, I'd rather they not release a follow up to it. But, I've said before on other forums that if Brian does do a rock and roll album, Al, Blondie, and David need to be involved. I couldn't agree more about Brian's voice. Even in his prime, he wasn't a very singer of rocking songs, which is why I assume he handed those leads to others.

Not to enrage SJS, but if Brian releases ANY new material, I’d rather he not be the primary vocalist. Sentimentality aside, his range is severely limited and his diction is long gone.
Ideal RnR album for me at this point? Book a studio for two weeks. Brian, Al, Matt, and the Wondermints (and an engineer or two). Everyone comes in with whatever tunes they have. Traveling Wilburys style, except tracks + vocals are done as much as possible in that time. Do what gets them excited, toss what doesn’t.

I think one of the reasons I enjoyed the bulk of NPP was because Brian wasn't asked to sing all 16 songs. Granted, I'd have preferred to hear more Al and Blondie and less of the seemingly random assortment of vocalists, but hopefully that's something they'll rectify on a future release.

For me it doesn’t have to be Beach Boys singing, but it would make more sense to have band members/co-writers singing rather than pop stars or various vintage or fame.
Al, sure. Matt, no-brainer. But every Wondermint sings well.

But every Wondermint sings well. I'd be OK with that. We've all heard Darian sing Darlin in concert, and I remember him taking a verse of This World World when I saw Brian in 2015.

I’d also just emphasize that these aren’t random guys, or of-the-moment stars. The ‘mints have been with Brian for 20 years now and have been a key component to the vocal sounds of his live shows and albums for a long time...not to mention legit writers on their own. They’re better than “backup musician” status.

What do you think are Brian Wilson's best solo albums, best solo songs, and conversely, his worst solo albums and worst solo songs?
Most to least favorite... 01. Brian Wilson (1988) 02. That Lucky Old Sun (2008) 03. What I Really Want For Christmas (2005) 04. Brian Wilson Presents Smile (2004) 05. No Pier Pressure (2015) 06. In The Key Of Disney (2011) 07. Imagination (1998) 08. Reimagines Gershwin (2010) 09. Gettin' In Over My Head (2004) 10. I Just Wasn't Made For These Times (1995) 11. Orange Crate Art (1995) My favorite songs aren't very interesting, but for once I actually have a clear-cut least favorite - "Saturday Morning In The City". I feel indifference towards quite a few of Brian's solo songs, but I actively dislike this one. It's tough to get through.

1. No Pier Pressure 2. Brian Wilson 3. That Lucky Old Sun 4. What I Really Want for Christmas 5. Reimagines Gershwin 6. Brian Wilson Presents Smile 7. Imagination 8. In the Key of Disney 9. Gettin' In Over My Head 10. I Just Wasn't Made for These Times 11. Orange Crate Art
Favorite songs in no order: Sail Away Whatever Happened Midnight's Another Day Live Let Live What I Really Want for Christmas Christmassey Love and Mercy Walkin' the Line Baby Let Your Hair Grow Long Let It Shine
Hard to list least favorites because it would just be stuff I don't listen to, like all of OCA, for example. In my top few albums, I usually find myself skipping Our Special Love and Night Time, though.
