Here's some photos from the Hall Of Fame ceremony:

Here is a trailer for an upcoming documentary, Echo In The Canyon, about the music scene in L.A. in the 1960's. Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys appear to be prominently featured. At 1:44 there is a short film clip or photo of Brian's piano in the sandbox. I don't think I've ever seen a photo of that. Check this out:

Funny that as seems always to be the case, the musicians themselves aren’t as clear on the history as the fans. Michelle Phillips talking about Brian writing in the sandbox...and he’s writing the songs that became Pet Sounds? I don’t know when the sand was brought in but I’ve certainly never heard that it was pre-Pet Sounds.

Sometimes I feel like 90% of the music news I read lately of the artists I like are either health issues, deaths, milestone anniversaries of classic albums, or "farewell" tours. Glad Mick is doing well. Ozzy Osbourne has also cancelled all 2019 shows for health reasons. Some of them are already being rescheduled for dates in 2020.

Here's something that's none of the above: the (remaining / current) Eagles are going to perform Hotel California in its entirety this fall in Vegas.

I was talking about this at work yesterday with two co-workers - one has tickets to a Rolling Stones concert and one has tickets to see Ozzy. No kidding.
Did you see the article on Tom Petty's daughter fighting with Tom's widow over control of his estate? I think in addition to reading about these great artists passing away, sadly, we will also start to see more articles about this (wills being challenged).

I was curious if the new lineup including Vince Gill and Deacon Frey would continue on, and if Don Henley was still...interested. Possible live album and DVD?

That kind of stuff is always depressing to read. I understand it's easier when you're on the outside looking in, but usually everyone involved is already well taken care of. Pretty hard to relate.

You'd have to assume there will be product from the shows.

This is an interesting story: a rap-country crossover hit by Lil Nas X that debuted on three charts--pop, country, and R&B/hip hop--has been pulled from the country charts for being insufficiently country. I hadn't ever heard it, so I listened via this link in the NYT story on it, and it definitely has elements of country as well as hip hop. Lil Nas X sings and raps. There are hip hop beats, but also country elements in the track. (For the record, I don't particularly like the song.)
I guess in the end, Billboard can do what they want. But Billy Ray Cyrus (a crossover hitmaker himself, with his old pop-country Achy Breaky Heart) defended Lil Nas X and apparently did a remix of the tune that was released today.
Categorization of music is a tricky thing anyway. I know we've often discussed it in terms of what does "rock and roll" comprise, especially in the context of things like the HOF.

It's not really news, but 25 years ago today Kurt Cobain died. I remember coming home from work, turning on MTV, and seeing a report from, I believe, Kurt Loder. I'm a Nirvana fan, not a huge one, but really appreciated Kurt Cobain's work.

I said (almost verbatim), “fuck, now history will pretend he was some kind of legend. He would’ve just faded away.”
