This type of move suggests to me that much of the rivalry between the camps is fan faction. As is much of what is said about the guys these days.

I don't think there is any doubt of that: fan fiction is a big part of, maybe the majority of, Beach Boys fandom. (Maybe obsessive fandom in general?) That's what the myths I talk so much about really are. Whether the good or bad, the lost causes, the brilliant moments, the characters themselves, it's mostly fan fiction setting some (not quite accurate, and sometimes not remotely accurate) context for the music.
The bands? Those are musicians getting paid to play great music, not foot soldiers storming Mount Doom.

Part of the issue with myths is if they stick around long enough, they become accepted as fact. At the end of the day, the music overcomes any of that nonsense

Does it? How do people think of Mozart, for example? By his music, sure, but also because of the myth that keeps him interesting to people.

I definitely wouldn't say the music isn't a key to the whole thing! But I do think it works both ways, and that these sorts of stories help keep music afloat in the public imagination.
Anyway, on topic: the Wilson/Zombies tour ... starts tomorrow, yes? I wonder how that's going to go. Very curious to hear which Surf's Up songs they do, in particular.

Overall, I'd agree with that. I honestly wish the Brian / Zombies Tour was coming closer to me. I've never seen The Zombies in person. And seeing Brian and band would be worth it just to hear the title track from Friends. There was supposed to be a new Brian doc called Long Promised Road in the near future, and I thought I heard a new version of the song by Brian was to be (or has been) recorded, so I could see that added. Feel Flows has already been in the set for a couple years, so I imagine that will stay. In a recent interview with Al, the song Don't Go Near the Water was brought up, so maybe that's a possibility. And one would hope the title track.

This subject is a thread within itself. For people who like to talk/write/read about their favorite artists, The Beach Boys are a gift that keeps giving. From their very inception - how many groups didn't choose their own name, had their name chosen by a perfect stranger, weren't even consulted, and only found out after the fact - they have been a victim of, or instigated, their own problems. You would think that after a while, um, maybe after 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 58 years, they would learn their lesson and...stop...making controversial or flat-out bad decisions. But they didn't. And not just business decisions but life decisions. And there has never been another band that even approaches this fact. None.
Can we, the fans, separate fact from fiction? Hell no! But it can be fun trying. Well, sometimes. Most of the time. I think there is a good, or preferable way to approach it. Or simply opine about it. And we keep trying, with mixed results.

I could see them pulling out Feet and Lookin' at Tomorrow, too, considering Al's prominence in this band. Til I Die was one they used to do way back. I don't think they have for years (that I can recall anyway), but it's been done. What I wonder most about is Tree. Such a deep cut with a lot of hardcore fans loving it. But honestly at this point it wouldn't even be fun watching Brian try to sing it anymore, I don't think. Too depressing (unless he's generally better throughout the shows).
Despite having sworn off future Brian shows in the past, this tour also piqued my interest. But they're not coming here, either. (Kind of odd, as Brian has almost always come here--often to open tours, oddly enough.)

That's why I'd love to see a warts and all massive anthology project (doc, book, or both) involving all living bandmembers, managers, wifes, experts, producers, associates, etc etc offering their perspective on the story. The truth would be somewhere in the middle.

I'm not as enamored with this Brian Wilson Band/Zombies tour as some. I already know how Brian's gonna sound and I have no desire to see or hear that. I like a couple of The Zombies' singles, the hits. I don't have Odessey And Oracle. Colin Blunstone was great singer and still puts out. I've seen a lot of their YouTube videos. But Colin's recent vocals are a little grating to me.

God, yes. That would be amazing. But I also would bet my house it'll never happen: anything marketed as such will end up being the same old kind of negotiated "settlement" with the same old stories. Conversely, once they're gone, we might get some former associates telling their stories ... but unfortunately, at that point, the primary sources are (by definition) gone and you can't get their rebuttals. I'm afraid the story will never be clear.

Al's done Lookin at Tomorrow during his tours. And he knows Feet. When I saw him last March, somebody in the crowd yelled it out, and Al sang the first verse and chorus. I know Brian did Til I Die in the early 00s, and it appears on the Live at the Roxy Album. I haven't seen any footage from anything other than opening night, which I take with the grain of salt considering Nicky Wonder was found deceased that morning. The tour is coming to Philly on a Saturday night. I've traveled to Philly to see Brian before, on the NPP Tour, and that was actually a great show. But, I've seen Brian three other times since then, and those shows ranged from OK to quite good, so I don't see myself traveling 90 miles to see him at this point.
