B.E. started this thread (in the Shoutbox), he just didn't realize it.
I'm working on my list now. It's not going well. I don't have the 87 he ended up with, but I'm trying to restrict my Top 10 to twenty songs ... and failing horribly. Stay tuned. And hey, post yours. Do it!

OK, OK, I'm just going to go for it, knowing perfectly well--to which I'm sure you all can relate--that the list means virtually nothing and could be changed in no time flat. My current 10 favorite Beach Boys songs comprise roughly the following 20 songs in roughly this order.
Wouldn’t It Be Nice Surf’s Up I Get Around This Whole World Time to Get Alone Heroes & Villains Cabinessence The Warmth of the Sun The Night Was So Young I’ll Bet He’s Nice
God Only Knows Sloop John B In My Room From There to Back Again Here Today I’m Waiting For the Day You Still Believe in Me Fun Fun Fun The Girl From New York City When I Grow Up (To Be A Man)

I like this format. Extending to 20 or 25 makes the list more interesting and informative. Going beyond that is counterproductive. It just starts to look like what it is...a list of every Beach Boys song. Hopefully, I'll have some time to listen tonight and finish up my list. I've been slowly chipping away. It has really served to underscore which Beach Boys albums are my favorites. Inevitably, there's significant overlap. A lot of Pet Sounds material, for instance (to name the most obvious one).

I ended up with, what, six Pet Sounds songs? And I seriously had another couple in contention. For a moment I actually thought my whole Top 10 would be just PS and Smile, actually. (Which reminds me, I had Wonderful and yes, Vegetables on my lists for a while. And just now it occurs to me I should have had Our Prayer and Wind Chimes, too. Damnit.)
No shortage of songs to love, that's for sure. Good problem to have.

This looks like a nice challenge, especially to someone who is still largely suffering from Beach Boys Burnout. I hope to get back to this soon!

someone who is still largely suffering from Beach Boys Burnout. As my posting percentages in various sections of the board show, I'm among those suffering as well! Honestly it's been on and off for at least a decade now, probably because I spent the previous decade so almost singularly focused. Now it's an evening here, a few minutes there. But that said, when they get me, they still get me...

The Girl From New York City
I know you have mentioned this one as a favorite in the past. While I like "The Girl From New York City" (actually I like every song on SDASN except for "I'm Bugged"), it's one my least liked of my liked songs, if you know what I mean. I think it's a notch below some of the other classics/hits on the album.

The Night Was So Young I’ll Bet He’s Nice
Yes! Not one but two Love You songs in your Top Ten. And Brian had changed so much from the Pet Sounds' days. He was a different person and a different artist by 1976-77, but he still had "it". I never get tired of hearing "The Night Was So Young" and "I'll Bet He's Nice". Good choices.

I'd go to bat for those two Love You songs any day. The Girl From New York City, I admit would flow into and out of the highest reaches of my lists, though I always like it. But those other two, the Love You songs, those are solidly among the top dozen or so all the time. I deeply love those songs. They're not going anywhere.

More the song than any particular version, to be honest. The album version or the TSS version are both great, and even the demo has its charms.
